Service Information

Hazel M. Runke, age 96, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.

Private Family Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township, Minnesota with interment in the church cemetery.

Obituary

Hazel Marie Runke was born on March 29, 1924, at home in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Reinhold and Emma (Schlueter) Runke. Hazel was baptized as an infant on April 13, 1924, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 22, 1938, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township, Minnesota. She received her education at the Boon Lake Country School through grade 6 and then at St. John’s Lutheran Church School in Cedar Mills through grade 8.

Hazel resided in Boon Lake Township most of her life, and later moved to Hutchinson in 2013. Hazel was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills Township.

Hazel was employed as a housekeeper for several years. She then worked at Fingerhut in Litchfield, Minnesota in 1967. In 1977, Hazel then became a cook at the Hutchinson Hospital for 10 years until retiring in 1987.

Hazel had a love for Jesus, flowers, playing cards, Bingo, Sudoku, puzzles, needlework, cooking, and baking. She especially enjoyed visits with her family and friends.

Hazel became a resident of Ecumen Pines in 2013 and enjoyed living there for 7 years. She recently began living at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson. She passed away there on Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the age of 96 years. Blessed be her memory.

Reinhold Runke and his wife, Carol, of Hutchinson, MN,
Diane Colombe and her husband, Greg, of Little Falls, MN,
Donna Knacke and her husband, Kim, of Buffalo Lake, MN,
Dianne Runke of Buffalo Lake, MN,
Deb Runke of Shoreview, MN;
Many other relatives and friends.

Hazel is preceded in death by her Parents, Reinhold and Emma Runke; Sister, Ruth Runke; Brothers, Clarence Runke and his wife, Edna, Arnold Runke, Marvin Runke, Walter Runke; and Nephews, Dennis Runke, Duane Runke, and Robert Runke.

    Hazel loved to visit and was always so kind and friendly. She was a great friend to my Grandma Doris Schlueter. May you find peace and comfort during this difficult time.

    In my early years of marriage, Delores invited me over to supper with “the girls”. I said OK and went over expecting to see Gary’s sisters, but “the girls” were Hazel, Ruth, Doris and Irma!! “The girls” always remained close friends.

    Hazel was always so friendly and sweet. I always enjoyed seeing her and talking with her. I will miss her when I visit St. John’s in the future. Sympathy and prayers of comfort to all who loved her.
