Service Information

Hazel Gruenwaldt, age 96, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 11, 2021, 1:30 P.M. at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment following at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held Sunday, April 11, 2021, from 11:30-1:30 P.M., 2 hours prior the service at the church.

The service will be live streamed on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 1:30 P.M. on Christ Lutheran Church’s website at www.christluth.com

Social distancing guidelines will be followed and mask are required.

Obituary

Hazel Sylvia (Wenz) (Metag) Gruenwaldt was born on June 28, 1924, in Hector, Minnesota.  She was the daughter of Ludwig and Marie (Miller) Wenz.  Hazel was baptized as an infant in July of 1924, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 5, 1938, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector, Minnesota.  She received her education in Renville County, Minnesota, thru the 8th grade. 

On February 20, 1941, Hazel was united in marriage to Lyle Metag at Ramsey County Courthouse.  Hazel and Lyle shared over 18 years of marriage until Lyle passed away on October 26, 1957.  On July 8, 1961, Hazel was united to marriage to Alvin Gruenwaldt at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hector, Minnesota.  Hazel and Alvin shared over 32 years of marriage until Alvin passed away on August 21, 1993.  She made her home in Hector, Franklin, Walnut Grove and finally Glencoe, Minnesota.  Hazel’s life was blessed with eight children, Larry, Joyce, Molly, Jan, Gary, Terry, Jackie and Julie and Alvin still married her!

Hazel worked at Sears, managing the Service Department, was a Mary Kay consultant, sold Home Interiors, worked at the Style Shop and Plato Woodworks.  She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe.  As her ministry to the church, Hazel served on the altar guild.  Hazel enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, reading, puzzles and camping in the RV.  Family was very important to her and she treasured the time spent with them and her friends. 

Hazel passed away on Monday, April 5, 2021, at her home in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 96 years, 9 months and 8 days.

Molly Streu and her husband, Tom,
Gary Metag and his wife, Mary,
Jackie Jensen and her fiancé, Mark Erickson;
16 Grandchildren, Kimberly Carrigan Jacoway, Randy Carrigan, Julie Carrigan Schrupp, Brian Streu, Kristin Streu Stepan, Meghan Streu, Melissa Streu Christensen, Jesse Jensen, Laura Jensen, Christopher Jensen, Marc Kroeger, Teresa Kroeger Blake, Kelly Metag Runkle, Eric Metag, Brandi Metag Maus;
27 Great Grandchildren;
6 Great-Great Grandchildren;
Sister, Elvira Levens;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives and many friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her Parents, Ludwig and Marie Wenz; Husbands, Lyle Metag, Alvin Gruenwaldt; Daughter, Julie Metag; Sons, Terry Metag, Larry Metag; Grandson, Paul Kroeger; Son-In-Law, Milo Kroeger; Siblings, June Wenz, Marlin Wenz, Lorraine Johnson, Ruth Hackbarth, Earl Wenz.

    So sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. I remember fun times when everyone would get together on the Wenz side. No matter our
    parent’s age when they pass, it is still hard to let go. Sending prayers, HUGS and much love. Rick & Bonnie (Heil) Karl
