Service Information
Howard W. Stockman, age 92, of Norwood Young America, formerly of Green Isle Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, 11:00 A.M., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, Minnesota, with interment following the service at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 9:30-11:00 A.M., 1 ½ hours prior to the service at the church.
Military Honors will be provided by the Plato American Legion.
Obituary
Howard Warren Stockman was born on January 17, 1930, in Plato, Minnesota. He was the son of Alfred and Annie (Olson) Stockman. Howard was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth by Reverend Bunge at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Plato, Minnesota. He attended the country grade school near Plato and attended Glencoe High School. After high school, Howard enlisted with the United States Army and served during the Korean War.
It was in high school that Howard met his wife, Mavis May Freter. On June 16, 1951, Howard was united in marriage to Mavis at St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. Howard and Mavis were blessed with three children, Wendy, Mark, and Mary. Howard and Mavis were thrilled to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary together.
Following his return from the service, Howard worked as a carpenter. He farmed near Green Isle, Minnesota. He drove a bus for the Sibley East School District for 20 years and also drove a semi for Locher Bros. Inc. in Green Isle.
Howard loved all sports, including golf and bowling. He enjoyed fishing and hunting when he had the chance. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins games on TV. He also enjoyed playing sheepshead and socializing with friends. He cherished the time spent watching his children's and grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities.
Howard was an active member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Reformed Church, a charter member of the church “Brotherhood,” and a member of the Plato American Legion Post #641.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Annie Stockman; Granddaughter, Sarah Evenson; Sister, Ruth (Herbert) Brelje; Brothers, Orlin (Marlys) Stockman, Richard Stockman; Sister-in-law, Barbara Stockman; Brother-in-law, Donald Schmidt.
