Service Information

Irvin Godel, age 86, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2019, 11:00 A.M. at Church of Peace in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 21, 2019, from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, Minnesota, and will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Tuesday.

Obituary

Irvin Henry Godel was born on December 7, 1932, in Everts Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was the son of Leonard and Mary (Kays) Godel. Irvin was baptized at Grandpa Kay’s home in Warren, Minnesota. He received his education in Battle Lake, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Battle Lake High School. Irvin entered active military service in the United States Army on January 26, 1953, and served his country during the Korean War. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 25, 1955. Irvin furthered his education at the University of Minnesota.

On August 31, 1958, Irvin was united in marriage to Darlene Borchert at Church of Peace in Glencoe, Minnesota. Irvin and Darlene started their life in Gaylord, moved to New Auburn and made their home in Glencoe for over 40 years. In the fall of 2018, they moved to the care facility in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Their life was blessed with two sons, Alan and Larry. Irvin and Darlene shared over 60 years of marriage.

In the early years, Irvin was a milk tester in the Gaylord area and also worked at the feed mill in Gaylord and New Auburn. Irvin then worked at the Glencoe School System as the assistant supervisor for the yard and transportation retiring August 1, 1997. He also drove school bus and the athletic bus for 35 years. The children would call him “Swervin Irvin”. Irvin was a member of Church of Peace in Glencoe. Years ago he was a volunteer member of the New Auburn Fire Department. Irvin was also a lifetime member of the Glencoe VFW Post #5102, where he served as commander and was a past member of the Honor Guard.

Irvin enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, gardening, yard work, traveling and walking three miles a day at the field house until last year. He and Darlene would play Skip-Bo together for hours. Irvin loved to watch game shows, the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

Irvin passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota, at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 9 days.

Brother, Homer Godel and his wife, Deloris, of Moorhead, MN;
Sisters-In-Law, Marian Godel of Battle Lake, MN,
Barbara Godel of Alma, WI,
Juel Godel of Fergus Falls, MN,
Shirley Godel of Kennewick, WA,
Beverly Godel of Elbow Lake, MN;
Diane Osmek and her husband, Milan, of Burnsville, MN;
Nephews, Nieces, Other relatives and many friends.

Irvin was preceded in death by his Parents, Leonard and Mary Godel; Brothers, L. Wilton Godel, Edwin Godel, Howard Godel, Myron Godel, Charles Godel.

    My Sympathy,
    I remember Ervin as the mild tester at the Diehn Farm near Arlington when I was a kid.
    You have many happy memories to remember:)

    Our sympathy to you and your family.
    I was your babysitter for Alan and Larry when they were little and you lived in New Auburn. You always had a treat cake or bars for the babysitter. Irvin also drove bus when our daughter was going to school in Glencoe.
