Ode To My Brother
If I were asked ‘What word would best describe your brother?” It would be selfless.
We all grow and mature, some don’t attempt to learn from their mistakes and grow to be a better human, but he did.
With every misfortune or misdirection (which we have all had to navigate these crossroads), he always understood who he was and his self-worth. This self-worth was a constant driving force within him, it was not manufactured by nurture (believe me), his drive was absolutely a product of life lessons-Nature, from a great desire to learn and be better, for himself, his family and his work.
My brother and I did not need to talk every day or see each other on a regular basis, we knew where we came from and the circumstances that made us who we are and the importance to always love. Love family, Love friends, Love life. NO MATTER WHAT! We were tight in ways no one would understand, this came from our sincere desire to remain connected from a very early age, which does not need to be discussed here and yes, we all make mistakes but do we grow from them, learn from them. My brother would be the poster child of learning and growth. He would help anyone with anything, we was a volunteer for the tough stuff and would never complain. My brother found family and love in everyone and everything.
My brother tasked himself with ensuring each of his grandchildren received a handmade rocking horse before he passed. Now, he has a lot of grandchildren, and the task was getting a bit much, this is where his friends and family came in and ensured that he had these horses and that they were delivered to each and every grandchild. (Thank you friends and family). He knew he was not a perfect parent, not as present as he should have been, but always thinking “how can I be better now”!
He would help a friend in need, a sister suffering, a mother recuperating and sincerely tried to be a better and present father.
Yes, selfless would most accurately describe my brother, my friend, my confidant.
There are no words now to describe the worlds loss of this soul, but it was most certainly heavens gain, especially if he can fish!
Fly my brother, fly, tell my sister Hi when you see her and know I will always remember and love you both very deeply.
