Obituary
Janet Marie (Toutges) Stramer was born on September 17, 1941, in Benson, Swift County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Stanley and Elayne (Koestler) Toutges. Janet was baptized as an infant on October 5, 1941, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock, Minnesota, and later received her first communion as a youth at St. James Catholic Church in Herman, Minnesota. Janet received her education in Henning and graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1959. She continued her education at the Beauty School in Fergus Falls in 1960.
On February 17, 1962, Janet was united in marriage to James Marvin Stramer at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. They made their home in Elbow Lake for 50 years. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Jeffery, Julie, Jon, and Jerry. Janet and James shared over 59 years of marriage when James passed away on December 14, 2021.
Janet was employed as a beautician in Elbow Lake for 30 years, and she looked forward to visiting with her clients. Janet also worked in sales alongside James, selling Saladmaster Waterless Cookware for many years. The couple did so well in sales that they were awarded several travelling opportunities across the country and around the world. They traveled to Alaska, England, Portugal, Germany, and many other places.
Janet was a kind, caring, and generous lady and was loved by everyone she met. She loved to travel, whether it was flying around the world or simply pulling their travel trailer around the country. The couple escaped the cold of Minnesota winters and spent them in Mission, Texas, for 20 years or more. When Janet was not working or traveling, she loved to go dancing and treat herself to one of her favorite foods, CHOCOLATE. Spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was time she truly cherished.
Janet passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, at the age of 83 years, 9 months, and 19 days.
Blessed be her memory.

Losing a mom is always sad no matter what age. Such a big part of our lives. They leave us great memories that will never go away. A angel to look over us is a blessing. Thoughts and prayers of comfort for the family.
Whitney says
Grandma,
I don’t know how to begin saying goodbye to you, because in my heart, you’ll always be here.
You were so much more than a grandmother to me. You were my safe place, my biggest supporter, and the person who always believed in me even when I doubted myself. From the time I was little, your arms were where I felt most at home.
I’ll never forget the way your kitchen smelled of cookies and comfort, or how you’d hum your favorite songs around the house. I’ll miss our talks over cards in the sunroom, where you shared your stories, your wisdom, and sometimes your secrets. You taught me how to be strong but kind, and how to laugh even when life is hard.
You had a way of making everyone feel special. Your smile lit up the room, and your hugs made all the world’s problems feel smaller. You showed me the true meaning of love—not just through words, but through every little thing you did.
My heart breaks knowing I won’t hear your voice or see you. But I carry you with me, Grandma—in the stories you passed down, in the lessons you taught me, and in the love you poured into our family every day.
Thank you for being my grandma. I will love you for the rest of my days, and I’ll try my best to live in a way that would make you proud.
Until we meet again, I love you more than words can say.
Love always

My dear friend.
So sorry to hear of Janet’s passing. Her candle may be extinguished yet her torch burns bright.
I am a volunteer at Glenfields and proud of it. Janet was one of the residents I would visit. Always such a pleasure to visit her as she was so welcoming and cordial.
Janet, you were my sunshine. Rest in peace my dear friend. God has gained a beautiful angel. Renee

Janet was a sweet woman. I’m so glad to have known her as an extended member of the family. She was always so pleasant to talk to at family events and other times. I know she will be missed by many. Prayers for the entire family.
Kara Nickolay says
Grandma, thank you for all of the memories that will be cherished for the rest of my time here on earth. I have so many fond memories of you — from countless haircuts and metal curlers to your comforting meat and potato dinners and peaceful days fishing on the lake. Each one holds a special place in my heart.
One memory that will always stick with me — and that truly captures your love and devotion to your grandkids — was the time I wanted to create a dessert at your house using quite literally anything sugary we could find in your pantry. From marshmallows to chocolate, we tossed it all into a glass dish and into the oven.
Without hesitation, you were all in, helping me bring my wild dessert dream to life — probably one of the most random and sugary creations ever made.
Thank you for saying yes to the little things, for your steady love, and for making our childhoods so full of joy. You will always be deeply loved and missed.
