Obituary

Janice Mary (Perschau) Mathews was born on April 3, 1946, in Gaylord, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Ivan and Emma (Grack) Perschau. Janice was baptized as an infant on April 28, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn, Minnesota, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 12, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle, Minnesota. Janice received her education in Arlington and graduated with the Arlington-Green Isle High School class of 1964.

On June 2, 1964, Janice was united in marriage to Larry Mathews at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. Together, they made their home in Glencoe for a short time. In 1970, they moved to Green Isle. The couple was blessed with two children, Shelley and Sheldon. Janice and Larry shared over 60 years together.

Janice and Larry owned Mathews Sewer System LLC for 55 years. She was a heavy equipment operator and was hands-on as the office manager throughout those years. She also owned and operated the Oasis Café in Green Isle for 5 years. Janice was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle. Janice and Larry enjoyed traveling and sailing on 20 cruise ships to places like the Panama Canal, Hawaii, and all the Caribbean Islands. She loved Polka Dancing and playing the accordion. Time spent with family and with friends was time she truly cherished most.

Janice passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota, at the age of 79. Blessed be her memory.

Brother, Kenneth Perschau and his wife, Millie, of Arlington, MN;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives, and Friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Ivan and Emma Perschau; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Eldor and Myrtle Mathews.
