Obituary

Jeffrey Todd Swanson, 59, of Hector, Minnesota, passed away the morning of Friday, April 8, 2022, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Minnesota, from complications of a traumatic brain injury. Jeff was surrounded by family when the Lord decided to call him home.

Jeff was born on August 3, 1962 at Renville County Hospital in Olivia, Minnesota, to Harold and Margaret (Mead) Swanson. He grew up on the family farm near Hector. Jeff was dedicated as a baby and then baptized into the Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith in 1973. He attended the Church of God in Hector.

Jeff attended Hector High School graduating with the Class of 1980. He then attended Willmar Vo Tech where he studied Agribusiness. Jeff farmed with his father for a short time and then began his trucking career. He covered many miles over the years, first travelling cross-country and later staying closer to home. Jeff started his own trucking company, Martinsburg Transport, in 2015. He was especially proud that his son followed in his footsteps and started his own trucking career, making him a third-generation trucker.

Jeff married Christine Olson on April 4, 1992. Christine brought two beautiful daughters to the marriage, Kayloni and Brigetta. In 1994, their son Caleb was born. He loved them all whole-heartedly.

In Jeff’s free time, he enjoyed shooting the breeze and having a cold one with his family and friends. Jeff was known for his sarcastic and quick-witted humor. He loved his tractors and pick-ups, and attending auctions. Jeff always had the music on and enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash and John Prine. One of Jeff’s favorite ways to spend his time was with his granddaughter, Braya – or as he liked to call her - his little sweetheart. He would take her on endless four-wheeler and tractor rides with a beaming smile stretching ear-to-ear. Jeff had an infectious laugh and smile and was always quick to lend a hand because that’s just who he was. He was a trusted friend and family member and we will all undoubtedly miss having him around.

Jeff is survived by his:
Son, Caleb Swanson and his fiancé, Courtney Schlenner of Hector, MN;
Step-daughters, Kayloni Schwarzrock and Brigetta Hammer (Joe Schlueter);
Three Grandchildren, Sawyer, Braya and Lincoln;
Mother, Margaret Swanson of Paynesville, MN;
Sister, Lynn Hennessey of Yakima, WA;
Brother, Kurt Swanson of Paynesville, MN;
Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nephews and a Niece.

Jeff is preceded in death by his Father, Harold Swanson; Brother, Lee Swanson; Grandparents, Albert and Mae Swanson, and William and Cecelia Mead.

    My deepest sympathies in the loss of Jeff. He not only was a classmate but also a friend. We started off in afternoon kindergarten together & lived through recess softball games (he even borrowed my red sweater once thinking it would help him hit a home run…and he did!), bus rides, spit balls in Lennox’s class, & many memorable chats. (Trust me, Jeff’s memory will stay alive when we have class reunions since he was like a brother to us.) Jeff was always good to me & I’ll miss our laughs together. My heart goes out to all of his family & friends.

    Love to all of Jeff’s family and friends. My memory of the last time we were together at Uncle Harold’s funeral, just before heading out, having a moment with Jeff spinning some hilarious stories about growing up. His laughter was contagious.
