Obituary
Jerome William Kohls, with his twin brother Gerald, was born on June 24, 1938, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Edwin Kohls and Augusta (Hardel) Kohls. Jerome was baptized as an infant at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1938, and was later confirmed there, as a youth, in 1952. He went to parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran, Brownton, and finished his high school education at Brownton Public High School in 1956.
After graduation, he enlisted in the National Guard and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. He was honorably discharged and returned to Brownton. He gained employment with the McLeod County Highway Department and remained employed with the county until his retirement.
Jerome enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Alexandria. He would be there every weekend and after retirement he would be there almost more than his house in town. He also enjoyed volunteering at the school and mowing at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. He could often be found driving his golf cart around to either of those places, keeping himself busy.
Jerome loved going to any sporting event that his family members were in. He also enjoyed going to their concerts. He loved music and bought many instruments for his family.
After he moved to Hutchinson, he enjoyed his digital picture frame. He could get updates on anything “new” that was going on at the cabin, what his great nieces were up to, and seeing anything the great-great niece and nephew were doing. It brought him a lot of joy when he would see that he had new pictures available. You could be sure he would call whoever sent him new pictures and ask a lot of questions about the picture.
Jerome was usually quiet but if he let you get close to him, you would find out he was a very funny, talkative and caring man. He was quick witted and always had a comment if he didn’t quite “agree” with what his niece or nephew was doing.
Jerome died on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Ecumen Pines in Hutchinson, at the age of 85 years.
Blessed be his memory.
He will definitely be missed.

To the Kohls family, Jerome you did an exceptional job of mowing the Immanuel cemetery where my aunt & uncle Gualke are buried, now it’s your time to RIP God’s servant.
Betty Schroeder says
Donna and family: My sympathy to you and your family. Jerome, Darwin, Gloria and I and a few others, spent many a Friday night at the Brownton Liquor Store many years ago. Jerome was always fun to be around. Serious but every once in a while, would crack a funny. Thinking of you now with this loss.

Donna Kimmes says
Hi Charles, it was so nice to hear from you. How are you and family doing? I hope all is well. We’re doing well here. I remarried to Pete Kimmes and we go Raving to Arizona in the winter. So we flew back last Saturday and will go back to the warmer weather tomorrow. Thanks again for the condolences.

What happy memorials of family get togethers through the years. I am one of several cousins, we never can quite figure how many first cousins there are. So sorry for your loss. Jerome loves you both so much.
