Joan Hatlestad

Obituary

Joan Marilyn (Thompson) Hatlestad was born on January 8, 1934, in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin.  She was the daughter of Adam and Bertha (Ask) Thompson.  Joan was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her Lutheran Faith in West St. Paul, Minnesota.  She received her education in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, graduating with the St. Croix Falls Class of 1951. 

On November 2, 1952, Joan was united in marriage to Dick Hatlestad at ‘The Little Brown Church in the Vale’ in Nashua, Iowa.  Joan and Dick made their home in South St. Paul and Glencoe, Minnesota.  Their marriage was blessed with four children, Steve, Tom, Mark and Shelly.  On November 23, 1983, Joan was united in marriage to Armin Rathke at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota.  They made their home in Brownton, Minnesota. 

Joan was a loving mother and homemaker.  She was a member at Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe.  Joan also was a leader of the Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops, when her children were members, and the VFW Auxiliary. 

Joan enjoyed reading, camping listening to music and dancing to old time music.  She loved her dogs and always had a “Sammy”.  Joan cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Joan passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 83 years and 1 month.

18 Great Grandchildren;
