Obituary

Joan Kay Prieve was born on July 30, 1932, to CJ and Esther Templin in Graceville, Minnesota. She spent her younger years in Morris, Minnesota, before moving to Hutchinson, Minnesota, where she graduated from high school.

She married Ervin “Bud” Prieve on July 31, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were blessed with three sons, Bob, Steve and Tom. Joan and Bud shared 54 years of marriage in Hutchinson.

Joan worked at the Hutchinson Leader for many years, retiring in 2004.

Joan enjoyed playing the piano, baking, and tending her many flowers. She and Bud enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dancing, and going “up north” to her parents’ homes in Longville and Hackensack. They later enjoyed spending time at their Clear Lake trailer lot with lots of friends and family.

Blessed be her memory.

Joan is survived by her:
Sons, Robert “Bob” (Kathy) Prieve,
          Steve (Nancy) Prieve,

My thoughts are with you, Bob, Steve and Tom & families. My dear Joan, You made me promise that when I hear you have passed away… to yell out, ‘Hallelujah’, because life was lonely without Bud and you were ready for what comes next. I enjoyed our many conversations, and I loved to hear you sing. Your voice was beautiful. After all those years proofreading the Hutchinson Leader, you still found pleasure in pointing out an occasional mistake! We both had ‘newspaper print’ in our blood, along with a love of vocabulary. Sharing that with you was special. (RHYTHM)? Telling me about the little brown church and how you and Bud had to ring the bell together after your wedding ceremony was so very sweet. I know you could not wait to be with him again. So Joan, HALLELUJAH! Your work on earth is done. Enjoy your reward. God Bless your memory.

Bob, Steve, and Tom, I am so sorry to see that your mom passed away. I know it is hard to lose a mom. My dad is on the same obituary page as your mom, and it brings back memories of our old neighborhood. We were blessed to grow up in such a wonderful time and place, where our moms got together for coffee and we kids played outside between all our backyards! I’ll be praying for you all during this time.
With sympathy from your long ago backyard neighbor!

Thank you for the kind words, Mariel. We laid mom to rest yesterday on a beautiful afternoon at Peace Lutheran Cemetery. We all said HALLELUJAH! as well.

Our sympathies for your loss of your father.

      Tom
