Joan R. Hawkins

Obituary

Joan Rosalie Hawkins was born on April 16, 1935, in Isanti, Minnesota.  She was the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn (Carlson) Anderson. Joan was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Isanti.  She received her education in Anoka, and was a graduate of the Anoka High School Class of 1948.

On June 12, 1954, Joan was united in marriage to Francis Dwight Hawkins in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Linda. Joan and Dwight resided in Baldwin Park, California. In 1990 they moved back to Grove City, Minnesota.  Joan and Dwight shared 63 years of marriage.

Joan was employed for many years in California with the Baldwin Park School District in the Food Services Department where she enjoyed being with all the children. She retired in 1990

Family was always very important to Joan and she was devoted to her three grandsons, Mark, Ben and David.  She was excited about her great grandsons, Apollo and Logan.  She also enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.  She loved to go on picnics, luncheons and celebrate special events with all of them.  There was no doubt, Joan loved her family and friends and the time she spent with them.

Joan enjoyed crocheting, and embroidering.  She had a passion for quilting and especially looked forward to quilting on Tuesday mornings at First Lutheran Church.  Joan always enjoyed a good round of golf and bowling.  For several years, she and Dwight had a lake cabin and she cherished the memories made there.   

When Joan needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident at Meeker Manor Rehabilitation Center on July 12, 2017 and passed away there on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the age of 82 years.  We would like to give a special thank you to the staff of St. Croix Hospice and Meeker Manor Rehabilitation Center for taking such good care of her.  She will be dearly missed.  Blessed be her memory.

Sisters In-Law, Ava Flachmeyer and her husband, William,
                         Sharon Hawkins and Sandra Hawkins;
Nieces, Nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Joan is preceded in death by her: Parents, Clarence and Evelyn Anderson; Daughter, Linda Marie Isaak; Infant Grandson, Paul Isaak; Siblings, Lowell (Myrtle) Anderson, Claire (MaryAnn) Anderson, Robert (MaryAnn) Anderson, John Anderson, Yvonne (Steve) Campbell.
