Service Information
JoAnne Heimkes, age 84, of Brownton, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at her home in rural Brownton.
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with interment in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Obituary
JoAnne Gertrude Heimkes was born on July 14, 1940, in Gaylord, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Edwin C. and Hertha E. (Polsfuss) Hahn. JoAnne was baptized as an infant on August 11, 1940, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord by Reverend Gro. L. Matthiae. She was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 11, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord by Reverend Ernst J. Stahlke. JoAnne received her education in Gaylord and was a graduate of the Gaylord High School Class of 1958.
On September 19, 1959, JoAnne was united in marriage to Virgil Ervin Heimkes at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord by Reverend Marquardt. They were blessed with two children, David and Julie. She worked at Citizens State Bank in Gaylord until their son, David was born in 1961. The couple resided in Gaylord until 1972, then moved to rural Arlington. She was a full-time mother and homemaker until 1980. She had various jobs, including Crystal Foods, Liquid Egg; Big Stone Canning Company, Scale House; Habilitative Services, Inc., Resident Advisor; and daycare in her home. Her main interest was the care of her family and seeing to the needs of her parents until their death.
Four of JoAnne’s greatest joys were her beloved grandchildren, Letitia, Lindsay, Lacie and Isaac. She also enjoyed painting, drawing, and fishing.
JoAnne passed away on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at her home in Collins Township, McLeod County, Minnesota, at the age of 84 years. Blessed be her memory.
JoAnne is survived by her:
Son, David Heimkes and his wife, Tammy of Emmett, ID; and
Daughter, Julie Day (Heimkes) of Brownton, MN;
Grandchildren, Letitia (Ricky) Zodrow, Lacie (Adam) Wright, and Isaac (Breanna) Heimkes;
Great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Garrett, Hasley, Aurora, and Jordee;
Many other relatives and friends.
JoAnne was preceded in death by her Parents, Edwin and Hertha Hahn: Husband, Virgil Heimkes; Granddaughter, Lindsay Heimkes; Brothers, LeRoy Hahn and his wife, Bernice, Vernon Hahn and his wife, Sharon, and Duane Hahn in infancy.
