Service Information

John T. Minnick, age, 89, of Cosmos, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at his home in Cosmos, Minnesota. 

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Brookfield Township, with interment in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.

 

Military Honors provided by the Beack-Thompson American Legion Post #126 of Cosmos.

Memorials are preferred.

Obituary

John Thomas Minnick was born on November 27, 1924, on the family farm in Boon Lake Township, Renville County, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles and Myrtle (Force) Minnick. John was baptized and confirmed in his faith on October 21, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brookfield Township.  He was a graduate of the Aurora High School Class of 1943, in Aurora, Illinois. John entered active military service in the United States Army on April 3, 1943, and served his country during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre.  He received an Honorable Discharge on March 15. 1946.   

On September 24, 1950, John was united in marriage to Elsie Laurene von Loh at the von Loh family farm in Cosmos Township, Meeker County, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children. They shared 44 years of marriage, until Elsie passed away on July 30, 1994.

In his younger years, John worked for the New Ulm Ford Garage in New Ulm, Minnesota. He farmed for sixty-three years on the farm near Cosmos, and also worked at Minnick Oil and Lietzau Lumber in Cosmos, Minnesota.  John retired from farming in 1986, but continued to advise his son, Bradley.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served on numerous positions on the church council.

John enjoyed wood crafting and fishing with Elsie, gardening, playing cards, and visiting with family and friends.

John passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014, at his home near Cosmos at the age of 89 years.

John is survived by his:

Children: Douglas Minnick and his wife Shirley of Lester Prairie, MN,
                Diane Benson and her husband Thomas of Cosmos, MN,
                Bradley Minnick of Cosmos, MN;

Grandchildren: James Boelter and his wife Lori, Tara Boelter , and Christopher Minnick;

Step-Great-Granddaughter, Karissa Vos;

Special Honorary Granddaughters, Heidi and Hillary;

Brother, Donald Minnick and his wife Carol of South Daytona, FL;

Sister, Carol Minnick of New Ulm, MN;

Sister-in-law, Esther Vorlicek of New London, MN;                  

nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

John was preceded in death by his Parents, Charles and Myrtle Minnick; Wife, Elsie Minnick; Son, Arlen Minnick in infancy; Brother, Harold von Loh and his wife Dottie; Sisters, Dorothy, Holly, and Mae and their husbands; and Parents-In-Law, August and Martha von Loh.
