John Droege, age 99, of rural Plato, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota, with interment following at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Hamburg, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M., two hours prior the service at the church.
Obituary
John William Droege was born on March 21, 1917, at home in McLeod County, Minnesota. He was the son of Ernst and Dorothea (Mehlhop) Droege. John was baptized as an infant on April 8, 1917, by Rev. H. J. Boumann and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 29, 1931, both at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. He received his education in Glencoe, graduating from Stevens Seminary in 1934.
On October 26, 1979, John was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” (Christopherson) Johnson by Rev. L. Meyer at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. John and Betty made their home on the family farm in rural Plato, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with Betty’s children and grandchildren, whom John loved as his own. John and Betty shared over 36 years of marriage.
John farmed in Helen Township with his brother Otto and step son Mark. He was a lifelong active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg, Minnesota. John was also a member of the local ditch committee and served as an election judge for Helen Township.
John was an honest and hardworking man, taking great pride in giving his best and doing it right. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, trapping, traveling and watching sports, which he loved to attend and cheer on his grandsons. John cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
When John needed assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe in March of 2015. He passed away there on March 29, 2016, at the age of 99 years and 8 days.

Tyson Johnson;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives and many friends.
John is preceded in death by his Parents, Ernst and Dorothea Droege; Step Daughter, Denise Johnson; Brothers, Otto Droege, Albert Droege and his wife, Evangeline; Sisters, Bertha Tiefel and her husband, Art, Alice Cunningham and her husband, George, Dorothy Schwartz and her husband, Herbert.
