Obituary

Joseph Clark Fountain was born on August 26, 1946, to Forest and Downing “Lou” Fountain in Big Lake, Minnesota.  He spent most of his childhood watching over and protecting his younger siblings, Patricia, Terry, and Steven; but yet he was involved in all the sibling shenanigans.  Joe was baptized at the age of 6 with his father and siblings and was confirmed when he was in the 8th grade.  His love for Jesus lead him to attend Concordia Academy High School in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Joe praised the Lord with his beautiful singing voice while being a tenor in the Concordia Academy Glee Club.  He graduated in 1964.

Joe attended Concordia College St. Paul from 1964-1968 and studied elementary education, graduating in 1968.  Here he met the loved of his life, Jacqueline Jo Ann Carson.  They married on June 21, 1969, and moved to Sacramento, California, where he taught for four years at Town and Country Lutheran School.

His next teaching call was at Mount Olive Lutheran School in Des Moines, Iowa.  He taught there for 9 years.  In 1980, Joe and Jackee moved to Glencoe, Minnesota, where they raised their three daughters, Sara, Amber, and Gabrielle.  Joe served as teacher at First Lutheran School for 40 years, in addition to coach, athletic director, and technology guru.  He was an active member of First Lutheran Church by singing in the choir, playing hand bells, serving as youth director and on the youth board, serving on the technology committee, and creating many church service power point presentations.  He was a well-known member of the community who always made a friend wherever he went.

Joe retired from teaching in 2019 after serving as a Lutheran school teacher for 51 years.  He shared his love for the Lord and the Good News of Jesus to over 1,000 students and encouraged them to reach their highest potential.

Joe was a loving and supportive husband for Jackee for 51 years.  He was extremely proud of his 3 daughters and enjoyed supporting them in all of their life accomplishments.  Joe was a loving Papa to his grandchildren; Jade, Carson, Amelia, Kylah, Mathea, Eli, and Keagan.  He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play pretend, Barbies, and dinosaurs.  Joe spent many hours building with Legos, transforming Transformers, playing cards and numerous games with his daughters and grandchildren, clapping and chuckling at nightly dance parties, and sharing his popcorn during family movie nights.  He was called Papa Fix-it and was always on duty to fix a broken toy.

Joe was a faithful servant who showed love to others and helped those in need.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching local and national sporting events, drinking coffee, reading suspense and mystery novels, and listening to a vast variety of music genres at all times.

Joe passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on August 10, 2020.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Forest and Lou Fountain and his in-laws, Lester and Helen Carson.

He is survived by wife, Jackee; daughters, Sara (Paul) Berg, Amber (Christopher) Generally, and Gabrielle Fountain; 7 grandchildren, Jade, Carson, Amelia, Kylah, Mathea, Eli and Keagan; siblings, Patricia, Terry, Steven; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and families; nieces and nephews and their families; and countless friends and former students who love him from all over the country.

“His master said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant.  You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.  Enter into the joy of your master.” – Matthew 25:23

Jackee and family, so sorry to hear about Joe. My favorite memory was the night when Kim and I plus our dog ran over to your house to shelter from the storm, Joe welcomed us in without any hesitation. Even tho we were soaked and the dog ran up the stairs and Joe said “go ahead Abby (my dog) take my chair!

Joe was a classmate of mine at Concordia Academy. We even “roomed” together for a semester.
He was always a joy to be around and to be friends with.
Your family will be in my prayers.
I always found it unique that I was born and raised in Plato, MN, attended elementary school in Hamburg, Emanuel Ev. Luth., then moved out of state and Joe took over the teaching duties in Glencoe. My older brother still lives in Glencoe.

    Dearest Fountain Family-
I worked with Joe in physical therapy during his stay at Courage Kenny. I know in talking with him how much he loved his familyand the Lord. He was so proud of all of you and the grandchildren and shared many stories about them. I am so happy that you were able to spend time as a family, sharing stories, laughing, crying, and just enjoying and loving each other. I am so sorry for your loss I know it is deep and how much he will be missed. May God comfort you during this time and the days ahead.

Jackee and family, We want to send our love and celebrate Joe’s victory in Christ and both of your dedication to the ministry of our Lord. We have fond memories of our time at CSP and picnics on the St. Crouix River. It would be fun to visit again. Love, Denny and Sue

Jackee and family, I’ve been thinking of you after the loss of Joe and praying for God’s comfort as you adjust to life without him. It will be hard (probably for a lot longer than people think) but you have your faith, the support of your extended family and the comfort of so many wonderful memories. Know that you have a vast network of people who are here for you whenever needed!
