Obituary

Joyce Ethel Dean was born on October 9, 1935, in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Ingvald and Priscilla (Vogee) Ims. Joyce was baptized as an infant on December 8, 1935, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 22, 1949, both at Rock Valle Lutheran Church in Echo, Minnesota. In her early years, Joyce attended country school, and continued her education in Granite Falls, Minnesota, and was a graduate of the Granite Falls High School class of 1953.

On February 6, 1960, Joyce was united in marriage to Dale Dean at Rock Valle Lutheran Church. This marriage was blessed with two children, Kim and Terry. Joyce and Dale resided on the farm south of Hector. They shared 49 years of marriage until Dale passed away on July 6, 2009. After Dale’s passing, Joyce moved to Hutchinson, Minnesota, for a short while before becoming a resident at Prairie View Assisted Living in Hector.

Joyce farmed with Dale for over 50 years on the farm in Palmyra Township. She was a member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township, Minnesota. Joyce was involved with the church’s ladies’ aid, and served for many wedding showers, baby showers, and funerals.

Joyce enjoyed shopping, traveling, and socializing at church events. She also enjoyed getting together monthly with her “birthday club” friends. Joyce loved being at the lake, spending time on the beach in Florida, and meeting for lunch with her “Florida Club” friends. Such fond memories of Joyce. A great conversationalist, always seemed interested in what we are doing.

My favorite story about Joyce is, from my sister in law. While they were out one evening something happened to my sister”in”laws dress. Joyce lead her to the bathroom,Joyce pulled out a dress out of her purse, it fit my sister in law perfect. When it came to appropriate dress, Joyce was always prepared. Joyce was one of those very rare people that brightened a room when entering.

Terry, I remember conferencing with your mom 40 years ago when you were one of my Fourth Grade students. I remember your mom’s gentle spirit, her smile and the ease of talking with her. I enjoyed those conferences. The loss of a mom is tough. No one can ever take their place. My mom died five years ago and I still catch myself thinking I need to call or write with a question only she has the answer to or to just visit. Cherish your memories. Hold them tight and they will bring comfort in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.
    You have my sincere sympathy.
    Mr. H.
