Obituary
Judith Kay (Cady) Reckow was born February 18, 1945, at the hospital in Madelia, Minnesota, moments before her twin sister, Jane, was born. Their proud parents were Ray and Lucille (Johnson) Cady. The girls were baptized right away in the hospital by the doctor, and gained strength and health. The family lived in Madelia, and attended the First Lutheran Church where Judy was confirmed. Judy received her education in Madelia until the Cady family moved to Hector. She graduated from the Hector High School with the Class of 1963. Judy worked as a bookkeeper for Johnson Hardware where she met her lifetime love, Alvin Reckow.
Judy and Alvin were united in marriage on December 5, 1964, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hector. They made their home in Hector. Judy also worked for Tom McGraw, both in the office and testing soil samples. She soon settled into her beloved role as homemaker while helping Alvie farm at the home place. They were blessed with two children, Kirk and Kari, and in time, their granddaughter Kirsten. Judy and Alvie had cherished 51 years of marriage when Alvie passed away on August 10, 2016.
Judy loved flower gardening, and was a skilled quilter. She joined Jo Klawitter’s catering business, and worked alongside Jo, Marlys Hagstrom, and Joanie Kirgiss for about 30 years. They catered hundreds of events, and their Friday night Steak Fry dinners at the Hector Legion were well attended.
Judy’s faith was first and foremost. She enjoyed worshiping at the First Evangelical Lutheran and United Methodist Churches in Hector, and recently at the Community Presbyterian Church in Hysham, Montana. She was devoted to her beloved family. She loved picnics, serving others, working on projects and taking long drives with Kirk, making the kids’ clothes, and playing piano. Judy enjoyed her trips to Montana spending time with Kari and Bill. She was very excited to begin a new chapter of her life in Montana, and was delighted in making new friends there. She lived full of life.
