Service Information

Karen (Gottfried) Healey, age 79, of Glencoe, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at Glencoe Regional Health Hospital in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 2 , 2022, 11:00 A.M. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota with interment following at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday February 2, 2022, from 9:00 – 11:00 A.M. at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe.

Obituary

Karen (Gottfried) Healey was born on August 12, 1942, in Sacred Heart, Minnesota.  She was the daughter of Kenneth and Alma (Lecy) Skalbeck. She was baptized as an infant on September 6, 1942, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 3, 1956, both at First English Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. She received her education in Sacred Heart and was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School Class of 1960.

On April 19, 1969, Karen was united in marriage to Eddie Gottfried at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Karla. On May 21, 1994, Karen was united in marriage to Gordon Healey at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They made their home in Glencoe. Karen and Gordon shared over 27 years of marriage together.

Karen worked at Granite Falls Manor as a nursing assistant, Glencoe Hospital as a nursing assistant, First National Bank in Glencoe, Telex in Glencoe for 24 years, and Security Bank in Glencoe until she retired in 2010.

She was a  faithful member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe where she was involved in the Senior Choir, Altar Guild, Building Committee, and a secretary of the Parent Teacher League and Aid Association for Lutherans. Karen was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary through the VFW of Glencoe.  

She enjoyed crocheting, camping, painting ceramics, listening and dancing to old-time polka music, spending winters in Texas, and weekend trips going to Duluth with Gordon. Karen cherished the time spent visiting with her family and friends.

Karen passed away on January 29, 2022, at  Glencoe Regional Health Hospital in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 79 with Gordon and Karla at her side.

Spouse, Gordon Healey of Glencoe, MN;
Daughter, Karla Gottfried and special friend, Nate, of Watertown, MN;
Brother, Jerry Skalbeck of Laguna Vista, TX;
Step Children, Jean Penman of Waterville, MN, Theresa Blow and her husband, Vernon, of Faribault, MN, Joseph Healey of Faribault, MN,
Renae Keppers and her fiancé, Shane of Medford, MN;
6 Step Grandchildren;
6 Step Great-Grandchildren;
Nieces, Nephews, Other relatives, and friends.

Karen was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Gottfried; Parents, Kenneth and Alma Skalbeck; Siblings, Keith Skalbeck, Susan (Skalbeck) Holien, Infant Brother.

    I am sooo sorry to hear about my friend Dying and the worst of it was she died on my birthday.I found her to be a very good friend while we were in rehab together.We had many many talks and laughs.I hope her family forgives me for not being there for them but i didnt know and i wasnt at home.I hope her family accept my apology for not being there.
