Obituary

Katherine Melanie Tauber was born on June 2, 1974, to Leo and Lila (Milbrett) Tauber. She grew up on a farm south of Olivia, Minnesota, with her sisters, Theresa and JoAnne, and her brother, CJay. Growing up, Katherine had a few nicknames including Smiley, Peanut, and Kathy, but the one that really stuck was Katt. She started her education in Head Start, and later on graduated from Willmar High School in Willmar, Minnesota. Katt worked full time and drove to Willmar three times a week to complete her diploma on her own. She furthered her education at Hutchinson Vo-tech and received a degree in Child Development. She also attended Rasmussen College and received a degree in accounting.

Kathy began her work career by detasseling corn at 12 years old. At the age of 15, Kathy received her driver’s license and then there was no stopping her. She went to work at the Gateway Café. After her graduation at Hutchinson Vo-tech, Kathy worked as a teacher in different day care centers before briefly moving to Florida. When she returned home, Kathy began working at Hutchinson Technology in Hutchinson, Minnesota.

On August 28, 2005, Kathy was given her heart’s desire, a son, Landon Leo David Tauber. From that point on, she lived for him and worked hard to provide him with everything he needed. Kathy was very proud of Landon.

As a youth, Kathy loved being outside: driving her big wheel tricycle, playing in the sand box, in the old house, going fishing in the creek and pond, and playing Barbie's with her sisters and of course her brother, who would play the dad and would have to put his Ken doll in his Tonka jeep and go to work. Kathy spent many hours floating in her pool, waving at anyone who honked as they drove by.

Kathy was a small and unique individual with a huge personality. She knew what she wanted and usually managed to get it. Kathy was beautiful, funny, loving, giving, caring, and she sure loved babies. The love Kathy had for her family was amazing. She loved her nieces and nephews very deeply and had a lot of adventures with them when they were small and after they were grown.

Katt lost most of her vision and used hearing aids due to Mitochondrial Disease. She lived with Landon in their home, taking care of it by herself until she was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. That journey was quick. Katt became too weak for any type of treatment, but she fought it to the end.

After 33 days, The Lord took Kathy home on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, at the age of 49 years, 348 days. Blessed be her memory.

Katherine is survived by her:
Son, Landon Tauber;
Mother and Stepfather, Lila and Mark Kapping;
Siblings, Theresa (Ted) Berg,
JoAnne (Peter) Schmoll,
Cletus (Steven) Tauber;
Nephew, Joshua Berg;
Nieces, Kristian (Christopher) Holstad, Abbigail (Evan) Gosewisch, KaLicia (Denton) Strassburg, Cailtin Berg (Paul Evers), Hanna Tauber (Cain Conrad), J’Lynn Berg;
Many great nieces and nephews, and her faithful dog, Nova.

Katherine is preceded in death by her Daughter, Tessa Kendra; Father, Leo J. Tauber; Grandparents, Melvin and Betty Milbrett, Adam and Blanche Tauber; Grand Nephew, Mason Gosewisch; Uncle, Melvin Milbrett Jr.

    Kathy was an amazing sister and was so happy with life. Although it was hard for her she never complained and love the simple things. She will be missed.

      CJ and family. I am just seeing this just hours after her funeral. If I had known I sure would have been there either last night or this morning. Kathy, as I know her, we always had our desks in the same group of four in sixth grade. I was so jealous of her because she had an E.T. T-shirt. She was very quiet but also very kind. She will be missed. Many grade school birthday parties with her.
