Obituary
Kathleen "Kathy" Ehlers was born on May 28,1944, in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Emil and Irene (Johnson) Rath. Kathy was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a youth at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. She received her education in Buffalo Lake, and was a graduate of the Buffalo Lake High School class of 1962.
On December 28, 1963, Kathy was united in marriage to LeRoy Ehlers at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. After their marriage, they moved to Bangor, Maine, where LeRoy was stationed while in the US Air Force. They also made their home in Hayward, California and Salt Lake City, Utah. This marriage was blessed with three sons, Brian, Scott and Justin. Kathy and LeRoy shared 51 years of marriage prior to the passing of LeRoy on March 5, 2014.
While living in California, Kathy was a homemaker, raising their three boys. She enjoyed watching her sons play softball in the earlier years. Kathy also worked in retail for a number of years at Mervyns, Sears and Kohls. She was a member of Awaken City Christian Church in Salt Lake City. Even though she was a few states away, Kathy's heart remained in Minnesota. She loved to watch the Twins and Vikings play ball, although, her boys favored the San Francisco 49ers.
After retirement, Kathy bought a lot and camper at Sherwood Forest campground at Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. She enjoyed many years camping and fishing with her family and friends. She especially loved when the three Grandsons came to visit.
Kathy also enjoyed the many 'road trips' that she took with her four sisters and aunt, Vivian. She loved to travel. One of the most memorable countries to visit was Germany, where her father was born.

Kathy was a very special lady. Always had a positive word, smile and willing to help anyone who needed it. She, Leroy, Brian, Scott and Jay are our chosen family. I remember the baseball games, Friday nights at Lyons and the memories of camping. The Ehlers will all be missed but in sure they are together enjoying each other and watching over Jay.

So sorry for the loss of Kathy. She was such a bright light. I got to know her and her family through the Bailey’s. She was always such a wonderful, positive and kind soul. I feel blessed that I got to know her and her family during their time in Hayward. Even though I was always the youngest at the gatherings, she always made me feel included. My thoughts and prayers are with Jay and her remaining loved ones. May she rest in peace.
