Obituary

Larry Dale Burandt was born on August 28, 1939, in Mayer, Minnesota. He was the son of Edwin and Ella (Gatz) Burandt. Larry was baptized as an infant on September 10, 1939, and later confirmed in his faith on March 29, 1953, both at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia. He received his education in Waconia and was a graduate of the Waconia High School with the class of 1957.

Larry entered military service with the United States Army on September 14, 1957. Larry received an honorable discharge on September 13, 1958, at Fort Ord Army post on Monterey Bay on the Pacific Ocean coast in California.

On June 10, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Joyce Karels at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota. After marriage, the couple made their home in Lester Prairie. They were blessed with four children, Bruce, Kim, Kristi, and Paul. Larry was employed at Wood Fab in Lester Prairie for 6 years, Tonka Toys in Mound for 13 years, and Poly Foam in Lester Prairie for 28 years. Larry retired in December 2007, at the age of 68. After retirement, he worked at the Lester Prairie compost site for 10 years.

Larry was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. He was an usher, served as an Elder for 8 years, and was the treasurer for the Missionary/Missions. Faith was very important to him. He read his Portal of Prayers daily. Larry was active within the community. Larry was a member of the Jaycees and the Lester Prairie American Legion Post #463. He sold house numbers and installed them with the Jaycees. He served on the Lester Prairie Fire Department for 23 years. He helped install the wiring and lights at the Lester Prairie softball fields and helped with the building of the Lester Prairie pool. And on Friday nights for 35 years, he worked with the “Chain Gang” at the Lester Prairie football games.

Larry enjoyed mowing his lawn and tending to his gardens. He was known for his well-maintained landscape. Spending time outdoors was time well spent, whether he was caring for his yard, out on the lake fishing, or biking around the neighborhood. Larry and Joyce enjoyed spending time at the Minnesota Arboretum over the years. Larry loved sports; whether it was playing baseball with his sons when they were young or cheering on his Minnesota Gophers over the years. Larry loved to socialize, play cards, and serve his special Tom & Jerry’s during the holidays. He truly cherished the time he spent with family and friends.

When he needed assistance with his care, Larry became a resident of GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe and passed away there on Friday, March 14, 2025. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

We’re sharing our love & prayers & sympathy with you, Joyce & family…we’re saddened to hear about Larry’s passing, but know that ‘all is well’ for him now!! He was a good & faithful servant, working so hard throughout life & death too; he’s certainly earned his heavenly reward!! Bless his soul…and bless all of you too, as you go through life without him physically here, but always ‘near’. He’ll be in your hearts forever; cherish all the good thoughts & memories of better days shared!! May they bring you peace & comfort now…he will not be forgotten!!

We’re thankful for the memories we’ve shared with him too; we’re thankful for the paths crossed through the years, with Larry & Brad being coworkers in the past & interactions within the community too (& also the many visits at the hospital & the hospital hallways=) He was truly one of a kind!! He will be missed…he will not be forgotten!!

    Sincerely,
    Brad & Lisa Jurek
