Larry Don Whitaker, age 92, of Norwood Young America, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota.

Gathering of family and friends will be Thursday, September 23, 2021, 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Paul-McBride Funeral Chapel in Norwood Young America, Minnesota. Interment at a later date in the Mau Cemetery in Norwood Young America.

Obituary

Larry Don Whitaker was born on May 26, 1929, at home on the family farm in Holland, Minnesota.  He was the son of Archie and Elva (Buffington) Whitaker. He received his education in Holland Minnesota. Larry served as a Sergeant in the United States Army. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star and the United Nations Service Medal.

On April 29, 1955, Larry was united in marriage to Berniece Trigg at the Presbyterian Church in Holland, Minnesota.  They made their home in Pipestone, Holland, Milaca, Le Sueur, Glencoe and Norwood Young America, Minnesota.  Larry and Berniece were blessed with five children, Larry, Garry, Terry, Donald and Steven.  Larry and Berniece shared over 63 years of marriage until Berniece passed away on February 26, 2019.

Larry worked at the bakery in Pipestone, then he and Berniece farmed near Milaca until they purchased the bakery in Le Sueur. Larry then went on to work at the Red Owl Bakery in Hopkins, Minnesota, and later owned and operated a bakery in Norwood until 1990. In his later years, Larry worked for Tino’s as a janitor. Larry was a member of Church in the Maples/United Methodist Church in Norwood Young America.

Larry enjoyed gardening, fishing for bullheads, and baking… even when he wasn’t at work. He looked forward to watching the Minnesota Twins play. Larry treasured his family as well as the time spent with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.   

When Larry needed assistance with his daily care he became a member of the family at Victoria Care Center in Victoria, Minnesota. Larry passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, Minnesota, at the age of 92 years.

                 Terry Reinitz and her husband, Robert,
                 Donald Whitaker and his wife, Lisa;
8 Grandchildren, Aaron Whitaker and his wife, Meranda, Jason Reinitz and his wife, Jami, Jeremy Reinitz and his wife, Summer, Jerad Reinitz, Samantha Shefveland, Derek Whitaker and his wife, Kayla, David Whitaker and his wife, Olivia, Daniel Whitaker;
15 Great-Grandchildren;
Sisters-in-law, Phyllis Trigg, Jean Trigg, Darlene Meyer;
Brother-in-law, Bob Trigg and his wife, Lorraine;
Nephews, Nieces, Other relatives and many friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Berniece Whitaker; Parents, Archie and Elva Whitaker, Father and Mother-in-law, Lenzy and Anna Trigg; Son, Steven Whitaker; Siblings, Verna Mae Erickson and her husband, Floyd, Archie Whitaker Jr. and his wife, Geraldine; Brothers-in-law, Earl Trigg, Ray Trigg, Leonard Trigg, Ernie Meyer; Sisters-in-Law, Marian Trigg and Donna Trigg; Nephews, Kraig Whitaker and David Trigg.

    So sorry for you loss. I moved from Norwood along time ago was classmates with Donald and absolutely loved going to the Bakery!! I know he will be missed by many.

    I enjoyed seeing his smiling face everyday at the Victoria care center. I will forever remember his Army and baking stories. Larry was so good with my daughter Sophia when she came to visit. Lot’s of Love Desiree
