Obituary

Leoncio “Lee” Thompson Tomenes was born on February 21, 1947, in Zamboanga City, Philippines. He was the son of Leoncio and Lucia Thompson Tomenes. Lee was baptized as an infant in Quezon City, Philippines. Lee’s family legally immigrated to the United States in 1961. He received his education in Hollywood California and was a graduate of the Hollywood High School Class of 1966.

Lee voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country during the Vietnam War where he served four tours of duty. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 15, 1971.

After serving his country, Lee returned to California where he met his first wife Debbie Pottorff and the two had three children: Allan, Emily, and Belinda Tomenes. He later met his soulmate, Cynthia Ann Wilson. Lee and Cindy married on January 16, 1992, and had two more children: Mary and David Tomenes. Lee and Cindy moved to Minnesota to provide a better life for their children and found a home in Hutchinson. They shared thirty-five wonderful years together and have ten grandchildren: Kayla, Kylie, Brendan, Jacob, Leoncio M., and Benjamin Tomenes, Alexa and Zoe DeBruhl, Madison Garrison, and Maria Rose Ashley VanAusdle.

One of Lee’s legacies will be the countless lives he touched. Lee raised and cared for countless babies and children. “Grandmaster Lee” impacted the lives of many in our community through the subtle way he offered his thoughts and wisdom to others. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Lee passed away on April 28, 2021. Even on his deathbed, Lee showed exceptional strength. He was surrounded by his loved ones until the moment of his death. The family extends special thanks to Justin Hansen, Bre Hoppe, Jess Paulson, and Owen Anderson for their compassionate care of Lee up to and during his final hours.

Blessed be his memory.

My dad was an amazing man. He adopted me as a child and because of that I can say that I was never left without a father. I thank you Dad for all your love, your wisdom, your easy going attitude and for loving and caring for so many people. Dad we promise to make sure Cindy is loved just the way you loved her! I’m glad you are no longer in pain and for that I am glad. My heart if breaking, and I miss you already. We will see you again in heaven! Love your first daughter, Belinda Tomenes

Known to many as Lee, he is forever Uncle “Chum” to me. (Chum as in chummy/friendly–He really lived up to that.)

I wish I had spoken up during the memorial service about some of my best memories of him, but I can still have a chance here… One of my best memories is when he took care of me after school in 4th or 5th grade..I was lying on the couch after school at their house, very sick, and he brought me a huge mixing bowl to get sick into, pillows and blankets, and water/juice and some medicine…. “Coneheads” the movie was on in the background and he kept making silly comments and making me laugh and smile as much as he could. I will never forget that day…

I will always remember his laugh and his funny comments and faces,

I will always remember his pride, his strength, his self-discipline. The lessons–big and small.

I will always remember him and carry his memory deep within my heart.

There was so much more visiting together I thought we would get to do before we ever saw this day… I guess I will count my blessings and be forever grateful that you got to meet my daughter…

Hope you are free and in eternal peace..Love and miss you so much already..

It saddens me so much to hear of Lee’s passing.
We were such good friends when we worked together at 3M.
May he rest in peace and meet us when we get to Heaven.
