Obituary

Lorraine Amanda Christine Meyer was born on December 21, 1929, in Corvuso, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Henry and Amanda (Olson) Janke. Lorraine was baptized as an infant on June 8, 1930, at First Lutheran Church in Dassel, Minnesota, by Rev. A. W. Magnuson, and was confirmed in her faith on April 18, 1943, at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson by Rev. W. J. Schulze. She received her early education at Country School District 82, and in sixth grade attended District 69. She was a graduate of the Hutchinson High School, Class of 1948.

On June 25, 1950, Lorraine was united in marriage to Corwin Meyer at Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson by Rev. A.W. Koehler. This marriage was blessed with one daughter, Sandra. Lorraine and Corwin resided in Hutchinson their entire life. Lorraine and Corwin had shared 25 years of marriage when Corwin passed away on February 29, 1976.

Lorraine began her career early; as a senior in high school she worked briefly for Dr. Scholp where she received six weeks of business training. After graduation from high school, she went to work at Home Bakery in Hutchinson. She then went to work for Dr. Lippmann, Dr. Smith, and Dr. Huebert for 10 years. When Dr. Smith and Dr. Huebert moved to the “New” Hutchinson Medical Center along the Crow River, Lorraine moved with them and continued to work for them five more years. She had worked for Bretzke Implement for 1½ years when she was pursued by Citizens Bank. Lorraine was the secretary for Citizens Bank President Irv Burich for 35 years until her retirement in 1998. Lorraine kept herself busy in retirement selling pull tabs at the VFW Post 906 for about 10 years. She worked until she was 81 years old. Lorraine was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church, and served as financial secretary for a number of years. She was also a member of the Hutchinson Hospital Auxiliary and the American Legion Post 96 Auxiliary.

Lorraine loved to cook, bake, and help people in any way possible. She was the happiest when her family and friends came over to eat at her home. Lorraine cherished the time she spent with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

Lorraine passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at her home in Hutchinson at the age of 88 years. She will be greatly missed by many. Blessed be her memory.
