Obituary

When we read the obituary of a child of God, we should not only hear a summary of their life, we should also hear how God was at work in their life. In studying the Scriptures as they are outlined in Luther’s Small Catechism, we have learned to look at God’s work in our lives and His rule over us in terms of three kingdoms: God’s kingdom of power, God’s kingdom of grace, and God’s kingdom of glory. God’s kingdom of power is the world into which we are born and in which we live. God’s kingdom of grace is the Christian Church into which we are reborn by Baptism and in which we believe and serve God with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. God’s kingdom of Glory is heaven, into which we are taken by death that we may live with God and praise Him forever.

Lucille Johanna Lillian (Muchow) Dahlke was born on February 21, 1928, in Transit Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Charles and Amanda (Schultz) Muchow. Lucille was baptized as an infant on March 11, 1928, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 6, 1941, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church (Mountville).  She received her education at St. John’s Parochial School (Mountville), through the 8th grade. After completing the 8th grade, Lucille chose not to continue on to High School. Instead, Lucille helped her Dad on the home farm.

On October 1, 1947, Lucille was united in marriage to Gerhardt “Bud” Dahlke at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children, Sandra, Jeanie, Roxanne, and Brian. Lucille and Bud made their home in the Dent, Gaylord, Brownton, and Glencoe, Minnesota area. Lucille and Bud shared 67 years of marriage before Bud’s passing in November 2014.

Lucille became Bud’s farming partner and enjoyed milking cows, raising hogs, doing fieldwork, and completing any other tasks that Bud needed help with. Then, in 1965, Lucille became Bud’s partner in Dahlke Excavating until 1982 when they both retired. Lucille enjoyed driving around in the gravel trucks and semis. She was Bud’s “right-hand woman” in the business.

Lucille enjoyed playing sheephead, the game of horseshoes, dancing, bowling, baking, and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. Lucille was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #5102.

Lucille passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at GlenFields Living with Care, at the age of 93 years.
