Obituary

Lyle Lloyd Mullins was born on September 19, 1950, in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was the son of Gordon and Marjorie (Lewis) Mullins. Lyle was baptized on May 13, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, Minnesota. He received his education at Dawson High School in Dawson, Minnesota and was a graduate of the Dawson High School Class of 1968. He continued his education at Alexandria Technical College in Alexandria, Minnesota and graduated on July 24, 1970. He then went on to complete his education at Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minnesota and graduated on August 16, 1974, receiving his Bachelor of Science, Sales and Marketing.

Lyle entered into military service in the United States Army Reserve on June 17, 1971, in Willmar, Minnesota. He received an Honorable Discharge on June 16, 1978, in Worthington, Minnesota, and achieved the rank of Sergeant.

On August 12, 1972, Lyle was united in marriage to Kathryn Krohnke at Eastside Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lyle and Kathryn resided in Jackson, Minnesota until moving to Hutchinson in 1985. They were blessed with 33 years of marriage and friendship until Kathryn went to be with the Lord on January 17, 2006. Together they had three children Matt, Michelle and Melissa. They enjoyed traveling the Midwest for Kathy’s art shows, boating on Lake Waconia, and were active in church and prayer ministries.

He was an advisor of DECA, an organization that prepares emerging leaders for careers in marketing, finance and hospitality. He proudly led his students to competitions throughout the U.S.  Lyle retired from Ridgewater College in December 2015.

Lyle enjoyed traveling, snorkeling in the Caribbean, boating, and biking on the Luce Line Trail. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. He was a devoted friend and father and was always willing to help others, and offered encouragement and guidance.  He was a follower of Christ and even through his illness was praising God for all of the blessings in his life.

I am so very sorry for your loss! Lyle was my instructor at Ridgewater and he was great! He had a love of encouragement and positivity! I saw Lyle around this time last year at Walmart- just enjoying his retirement! I’m very saddened to hear! He will always have a special place in my heart- as will many from Ridgewater but Lyle was truly the best! Being A teacher you touch so many- and for that you have left a piece through out the world!

We are sad for your entire family, especially Marge. It has to be so hard for all of you. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We knew him, growing up in Dawson, and he was such a nice guy.

I was a colleague of Lyle’s at Ridgewater and though our interactions were sporadic and usually brief in nature (I teach on the Willmar campus), I always found Lyle to be gracious and amiable. He was the kind of person I would want my own children to have as a teacher, which is the highest compliment I can offer to his life. Please receive my heartfelt condolences on your loss.
