Service Information

Mabel Tonn, age 91, of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019, 10:00 A.M. at Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, with interment following at the Lester Prairie City Cemetery in Lester Prairie, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 3, 2019, 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, and will continue one hour prior the service at the church on Saturday.

Obituary

Mabel Evelyn Marie (Sandquist) Tonn was born on March 11, 1928, in Watertown, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Sidney and Lillie (Nelson) Sandquist. Mabel was baptized as an infant on April 15, 1928, by Pastor LeVander at Swedish Lutheran Church in Watertown, Minnesota, and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 30, 1943, by Pastor N. William Anderson at Gotaholm Evangelical (Trinity) Lutheran Church in Watertown, Minnesota. She received her education in Watertown, Minnesota, graduating on May 31, with the Watertown High School Class of 1946.

On June 2, 1956, Mabel was united in marriage to Marvin Julius Tonn by Rev. N. William Anderson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown, Minnesota. Mabel and Marvin made their home on the family farm near Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter and three sons, Mary, Michael, Matthew and Maurice. Mabel and Marvin shared over 57 years of marriage until Marvin passed away on August 6, 2013.

In addition to being a loving farm wife, mother and homemaker, Mabel worked as a waitress and cook at Lindy’s Café in Glencoe and Jonio’s Pizza in Lester Prairie. She was an active member at Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie, where she was a member of the women’s guild and Mabel and Marvin cleaned the church for many years. Mabel was also a member of the home extension group.

Mabel enjoyed talking and socializing with others, attending garage sales, reading and gardening, especially flowers. She loved playing bingo at the nursing home and was always very proud of her winnings. Mabel treasured the time spent with her family and friends.

Mabel passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 19 days.

Matthew Tonn and his wife, Melissa, of Lester Prairie, MN,
Maurice Tonn and his special friend, Sharon Hittle, of Lester Prairie, MN;
Grandchildren, Adam Wilke and his wife, Bess, Andrew Wilke and his wife, Krystal, Eric Tonn, Cole Tonn, Logan Tonn, Josie Tonn,
Trevor Tonn, Megan Tonn, Jacob Carlson and his fiancée, Jessica Shaw;
Great Grandchildren, Alma Wilke, Winston Wilke, Roland Wilke;
Brother, Glen Sandquist of Watertown, MN,
Sisters, Gladys Cornell of Watertown, MN,
Lois Severson and her husband, Harold, of Lester Prairie, MN,
Mary Ann Kamann and her husband, Roger, of Waconia, MN;
Sisters-In-Law, Eleanor Sandquist of Granite Falls, MN,
Lila Schmidtke and her husband, Dave, of Faribault, MN;
Nephews, Nieces, Other relatives and many friends.

Mabel is preceded in death by her Parents, Sidney and Lillie Sandquist; Husband, Marvin Tonn; Brother, Alvin Sandquist; Sister, Esther Titrud and her husband, Woodrow; Brothers-In-Law, Donald Cornell, Herbert Rolf; Sisters-In-Law, Elsie Sandquist, Sophia Rolf.

    We remember when she worked at Jonio’s Pizza your Mom was such a sweet lady always enjoyed talking with her then and at Glenfield. We extend our Deepest Sympathy to your family.
