Marie Dols

Obituary

Marie Melva Dols was born on a farm south of Stewart, MN on February 2, 1915, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Schilling) Mayer.

Throughout her life Marie nourished her family and friends with her gentle and abiding love. She was decades ahead of her time as a businesswoman, putting herself through beauty school in St. Paul during the depth of the Great Depression, and then opening beauty shops in Stewart and Brownton. A consummate mother and homemaker, Marie was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She was a member of the Stewart American Legion Auxiliary for 70 years. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching hockey and baseball.

Marie married N. E. “Buzzer” Dols at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart on June 12, 1940. They lived and raised their family in Stewart. After Buzzer’s death in 1983, Marie continued to live in Stewart until she moved to Shade Tree Retirement Center in 2010.

Marie was truly the glue that held together her large extended family, and enjoyed celebrating holidays, weddings, birthdays, and graduations with her two children, seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Marie had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart where she was baptized, received first communion, confirmed, and married. Later in life she attended Mass weekly at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.

For the last 8 years of her life Marie resided at the Shade Tree Retirement Center, a caring and loving community in Brownton, MN. She passed away there on Wednesday morning, June 13, 2018, having reached the age of 103 years, 4 months, 11 days. The family will be forever grateful to the staff of Shade Tree for their loving and compassionate care.

Daughter, Patricia McLaughlin and her husband Patrick of Minneapolis, MN;

Daughter-in-law, Roselyn Peterson and her husband Duwayne of Hutchinson, MN;

7 Grandchildren:  Cindy Dols Finn (husband David) of Ostego, MN, Scott Dols (wife Vicki) of Lutz, FL, Sean Dols of Fountain, MN, Shane Dols of Elk River, MN, Molly McLaughlin of Minneapolis, MN, Michael McLaughlin (wife Elizabeth) of Mahtomedi, MN, and Nathan Dols of Ashland, NC;

13 Great-Grandchildren: Lacey Dols, Leah Dols, Racheal Dols, Hunter Smith, Savannah Dols, Lexie Dols, Danielle Smith, Connor Dols, Olivia Dols, Isabella Dols, Grace Dols, Rebekah McLaughlin, and Gwen McLaughlin;

numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her loving Husband, N.E. Dols, Son Danny Dols, and two Brothers, Herb and Oscar Mayer.
