Obituary
Marilyn Evelyn (Edin) Ueland was born on January 15, 1937, at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was the daughter of William and Evelyn (Wicklund) Edin. Marilyn was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended elementary school in the Minneapolis Public School system. Marilyn was a Girl Scout during her elementary years. After finishing elementary school, she moved on to junior high at Folwell Junior High School. She received her high school education in Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1954. She graduated 12th in her class of over 465 students. Following high school, she went on to work for General Mills in the Institutional Baking Division. She later worked as a secretary there.
While Marilyn worked at General Mills, she was set up on a blind date with Lowell Ueland. On September 15, 1957, Marilyn was united in marriage to Lowell at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple lived in Minneapolis while Lowell attended the University of Minnesota. Lowell transferred to River Falls State College in Wisconsin, which led Marilyn and Lowell to live in North St. Paul with Lowell’s parents. While there, Marilyn began working for the State of Minnesota’s Attorney General’s Office in St. Paul. Marilyn and Lowell were blessed with two children, Lynne and Dennis. In 1967, the Ueland Family moved to Glencoe, Minnesota, for Lowell’s new teaching job. Throughout these years, Marilyn was a stay-at-home mom, she worked at the Glencoe Public Library, and later at Green Giant, now named Seneca in Glencoe. She served in many capacities in the office at Green Giant. She worked there from 1983 to 1999 and retired after working 25+ years.
After retirement, Marilyn and Lowell did a lot of traveling. They visited many places in the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Marilyn loved to bird watch, listen to music, and get lost in a good book. These simple joys brought her peace and happiness. She spent many winter days cross-country skiing and summers golfing with friends. Marilyn, along with her friend, Eleanor, did several Science Museum tours over the years as well. Marilyn was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where she found community and friendship. She was a part of their church choir, which she enjoyed immensely, volunteered at Vacation Bible School and Sunday School for many years, and participated in a number of other church activities. Marilyn served as the Congregation President for quite a few years. Her standout accomplishment with that position was when she brought the Tri-County HeadStart program to Glencoe and its connection to Christ Lutheran, which proved to be a very successful endeavor for the church. Marilyn was an integral part of the local Girl Scouts troop, serving as an adult leader for many years. She will be remembered for her ambition, her leadership, for overcoming obstacles, and for a life filled with many meaningful moments.

Such a grand lady. My heart hurts at the loss of her. I didn’t know her well, but through our Tuesday morning Bible study class, listening to her stories about her youth were heart-warming. Love you, Marilyn. Be that warrior at God’s side.
