Service Information
Marjorie Benson, age 94, of Winthrop passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop.
Memorial Service will be Thursday, May 19, 2016, 2:00 P.M. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Obituary
Marjorie Lucille (Peterson) Benson was born on January 6, 1922, in Winthrop, Minnesota. She was the daughter of John Edward and Mina (Erickson) Peterson. Marjorie was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith, both at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop. Marjorie was a graduate of the Winthrop High School.
Marjorie was united in marriage to Wallace Benson on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1942, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters and two sons. Marjorie and Wallace resided and farmed in Cornish Township. The couple retired from farming in the mid 1980’s and continued living on their farm site until 1994, when they moved into Winthrop. Marjorie was employed as a dental assistant and nurse’s aide, retiring in 1978. She was a loving homemaker and mother. After retirement, the couple enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Africa, Sweden and the Holy Land.
Marjorie was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Winthrop. She was a member of the Covenant Women and a board member; she taught Sunday school and Bible Study and was a member of the choir.
Marjorie enjoyed gardening, flowers, music, baking, and singing. She had a gift of hospitality and loved to spoil her grandchildren. Marjorie always had Oreos in the freezer for the grandchildren, homemade nut goodie bars, and the candy dishes were always full.
When she needed assistance with her daily care, Marjorie became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop on February 23, 2009, and passed away there on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the age of 94 years. Blessed be her memory.

Keith Benson and his wife, Corrine of Robbinsdale, MN, and
Kevin Benson and his wife, Becky of Blue Earth, MN;
Grandchildren, Angela and Ryan Benson, Stacey and Samantha Benson;
Nieces, Nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her Parents, John and Mina Peterson; Husband, Wallace Benson; Daughter, Joanne Benson; Grandson, Zachary Benson; Sisters, Lois (Howard) Rosnau, Dorothy (Art) Weitzenkamp and Eileen (Donald) Anderson; Brother, Donald Peterson; Nephew, Gary Rosnau.
