Obituary
Marlys Ann Kubesh was born on February 4, 1930 in Hector, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Elsie (Prosch) Piehl. She grew up on the family farm and was a 1948 graduate of Hector High School. After high school, she took her turn keeping house for her widowed father. Once her younger sister could take on this duty, Marlys set out for Washington, DC, and worked as a typist for different government agencies. Her adventure lasted a few years, and she returned home to marry Dr. Gordon J. Kubesh of Buffalo Lake. They were wed on April 27, 1957 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hector. She spent the rest of her life as a resident of Buffalo Lake.
Marlys was responsible for managing Gordon’s busy veterinary office - taking calls, dispensing medicines, and handling the bookkeeping - and raising a family of six children. Even with the growing practice, she made sure the laundry was always done, a home-cooked supper was on the table each evening, and there was cake and coffee whenever a client or visitor dropped by for a chat. She was kind and generous, and also resilient and uncomplaining, handling every situation with her lively sense of humor. She regretted her lack of postsecondary education but was exceptionally well-read and self-educated. She had high standards but gave space and encouragement for her children to grow.
Marlys passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the Buffalo Lake Health Care Center at the age of 90 years.
She is survived by her Children, Charles (Karen) Kubesh of Buffalo Lake, Anne (Steve) Kleist of Hastings, Rodney (Sarah) Kubesh of Saint Cloud, John (Laura) Kubesh of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX, Kathleen (Paul) Prom of Saint Paul, and Eric Kubesh of Rochester; 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren; Sisters, Hellen Grabow, Audrey Wolff, and Ann Goerke; Brothers-In-Law, Lloyd Goerke, Charles Kubesh, and Gene Kubesh; Sisters-In-Law, Donna Piehl, Frances Piehl, Delores Kubesh, Nicole Kubesh, Jean Kubesh, and Kay Kubesh.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Gordon; Daughter-In-Law, Janet Kubesh; Sisters, Delores Olson and Dorothy Evert; Brothers, Ray Piehl, Warren Piehl, and Douglas Piehl; Sisters-In-Law, Muriel Piehl, Shirley Kubesh, Beverly Kubesh; Brothers-In-Law, Robert Olson, Willy Evert, James Wolff, Ben Kubesh, John Kubesh, Leo Kubesh, and Kenneth Kubesh.
May the eternal Light shine on her.

Our sympathies to the family. She was such a humble, gracious woman with a warm sense of humor. We absolutely loved her – although not nearly as much as you family did. She is in our prayers, as is the family too.
