Obituary
Marvin John Sprengeler was born on August 16, 1938, in Green Isle, Minnesota. He was the son of Arthur and Dorothea (Renken) Sprengeler. Marvin was baptized as an infant on August 28, 1938 and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 6, 1952 both at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. He grew up on the family farm as the youngest, with his twin sister Mavis and four other siblings. He graduated from Glencoe High School, with the class of 1956. In high school he excelled in sports, playing basketball, baseball, and he became a state champion in the low hurdles. Marvin entered military service with the Marine Corps on April 24, 1957. He was part of the team of 55 Marines that were stationed on the USS Shangri La aircraft carrier as part of the police force on the ship, patrolling the Pacific, providing order and justice for the sailors. Marvin received an honorable discharge on April 10, 1959.
On December 1, 1967, Marvin was united in marriage to Irene Bauman at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano. Marvin and Irene made their home in Delano before moving to his family farm in Plato, where they continued to raise their five children Jody, Julie, John, Janelle and Jim. Marvin and Irene shared over 35 years of marriage and enjoyed traveling, attending family gatherings, and building a loving home together, where Marvin always took special care of Irene prior to her passing away on April 20, 2003. Marvin enjoyed living at the Haven in Norwood Young America for the past 8 years.
For over 35 years, Marvin worked as an Electrical Control Panel Fabricator for Commonwealth Electric in St. Paul and Control Center in Golden Valley and various other metro locations. He shared his passions and talents for electrical systems by wiring many of his kids’ houses or miscellaneous projects at their homes.
Marvin was a long-time member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. He was a member of 4H and FFA where he won Showman of the Year with Brown Swiss. Marvin also enjoyed bowling and playing cards, especially Sheepshead, and above all, cherished the time spent with family and grandchildren.
One of his greatest joys was treating his family to lunch or dinner and never letting anyone else pay the bill. He was a loving, patient, and supportive husband, father and grandfather. His life modeled the importance of faith, hard work and generosity. Marvin will always be remembered for his quick wit, political commentary, and sense of humor.

Sheri Sergent (Bump) says
I was so sorry to hear about your Marvin’s passing. My deepest sympathies to you and your family during this difficult time. As Janelle mentioned, meeting up with Irene sounds wonderful. Marvin was quite the human as I noticed from the obituary, from being an honored Veteran, to a loving husband, dad, and grandpa…I remember him as a man of few words, but one paid attention when he had something to say. Thinking of you all- with love, thoughts, and prayers to you and your family.
Don and Darlene Dammann says
Our deepest sympathy to the Sprengler Family from Don and Darlene Dammann
