Service Information

Marvin Kuphal, age 91, of Gaylord passed away Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord.

Memorial Service will be Friday, March 4, 2022, 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord with interment at a later date.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Thursday, March 3, 2022, from 4:30 P.M.-7:00 P.M. and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday, ALL at church.

Masks are encouraged.

Obituary

Marvin Martin Kuphal was born on February 21, 1931, in Gaylord, Minnesota. He was the son of Martin Sr. and Esther (Podratz) Kuphal. Marvin was baptized as an infant on March 8, 1931, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on March 25, 1945, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He received his education at Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School and attended Gaylord High School through his junior year.

On November 20, 1948, Marvin was united in marriage to Janice Monson in Alfsborg Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with four children, Barb, Betty, Gary, and Greg. Marvin and Janice resided in the Gaylord area and they shared over 72 years of marriage together. Marvin worked at various jobs, including farming in Dryden Township and with the Sibley County Highway Department as a foreman until his retirement. After retirement he graded township roads in Dryden Township.

Marvin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.

Marvin enjoyed playing cards, collecting toy tractors, owned and operated Marv’s saw shop and made wooden items for his grandchildren. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marvin passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at Bayside Manor in Gaylord at the age of 91 years. Blessed be his memory.

Marvin is survived by his:
Daughter, Barb Harbarth of Gaylord, MN, and her children, Paula Wolter Mattson and her husband, Todd, Rick Harbarth and his wife, Pam, Becky Harbarth and her husband, Jon Suedbeck;
Daughter, Betty Kuphal and her special friend, Linda Hallen of Brooklyn Park, MN, and her children, Katie Kuphal and Kristine Kuphal;
Son,         Gary Kuphal and his wife, Carol of LaCrescent, MN, and their children, Ryan Kuphal and his wife, Shelby, Eric Kuphal, Erin Gerhardt and her husband, Peter, Kristin Fee and her husband, Joe;
Son,         Greg Kuphal of Gaylord, MN, and his children, Kevin Kuphal and his wife, Crystal, Tracy Kuphal-Strand, Tim Kuphal and his wife, Jenna;
29 Great Grandchildren;
Sister, Doris Martens of Gaylord, MN;
Brother, Karl Kuphal and his wife, Sue of Gaylord, MN;
Sister-in-law, Cecelia Eliason of Willmar, MN;
Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his Parents, Martin Sr. and Esther Kuphal; Wife, Janice Kuphal; Parents-in-law, John Arnold and Florence Monson; Son-in-law, Larry Harbarth; Sister, Deloris Swanson; Brothers, Irwin Kuphal, Sid Kuphal, Albert Kuphal, and Martin Kuphal, Jr.; Sisters-in-law, Carol Young and Fay Ulrich; Brothers-in-law, Merlyn Monson, Roland Monson, Darroll Monson.
