Melvin E. Dettman

Obituary

Melvin Ervin Dettman was born on August 25, 1931, at home in Grafton Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of Carl and Christina (Schultz) Dettman. Melvin was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 27, 1945, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart, Minnesota. He received his education in District 8 in Stewart, and District 24 in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota.

On October 6, 1967, Melvin was united in marriage to Karen Jenneke at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota. Melvin and Karen resided in Preston Lake Township, rural Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, and shared 43 years of marriage until Karen passed away on March 13, 2011.

Melvin was a farmer his entire life and was in partnership with his brother, Lloyd, for over 40 years until he retired in 1992. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Melvin was also a member of the F.R.E.E. organization at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake.

Melvin enjoyed woodworking, working on craft projects, and spending time on the farm. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and pets.

Melvin passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, in Buffalo Lake, at the age of 91 years.

Brother, Lloyd Dettman and his wife, Evangeline of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota;
Nephew, Kevin Dettman and his wife, Amy of Buffalo Lake, Minnesota;
Niece, Julie Noe and her husband, Richard of Custer, South Dakota;
Great-Nieces and Nephews, Isaac Noe, Esther Noe, Caleb Noe, Rachel Noe, Lydia Noe, Gabriel Noe, Bethany Noe, Nathan Noe, Whitney Scalora and her daughters, Novalie and Aurora Pitala;
Many other relatives and friends.

Melvin is preceded in death by his Parents, Carl and Christina Dettman; Wife, Karen Dettman; Sister, Gladys Doerr and her husband, Nester.
