Obituary
Merlin David Schramm was born on January 15, 1958, in Glencoe, Minnesota. He was the son of Harold and Violet (Proehl) Schramm. Merlin was baptized as an infant on February 9, 1958, by E.A. Schuett and confirmed in his faith as a youth on May 21, 1972, by Pastor Bert Klein, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato, Minnesota. Together with his parents, his sponsors, Dorothy Rose, Ruth Proehl, and Vernon Engelmann, presented Merlin for baptism and helped him to lead a Christian life. His confirmation verse was 1 John 4:9. “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” Merlin attended Glencoe Public Schools and graduated with the Glencoe High School class of 1976.
Merlin lived on the Schramm family farm all his life and had a real love for the farming way of life. He had a great appreciation for their dairy cows and it was a difficult transition when they were sold in 2016. He looked forward to planting season and fall harvest every year. Merlin was considered “particular” when it came to maintaining the corn dryer and had a knack for working on all things electrical at the farm. Some might say a “perfectionist.”
Merlin was a lifelong active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato and served as a Deacon there for many years. Merlin led a faith-based life, and sharing the word of the Lord was important to him. Merlin was active in the Plato/Glencoe community and was a patron at a lot of the local events, especially in the ag world. Merlin cherished his time spent with his brothers and socializing with friends.
Merlin passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Glencoe Regional Health Services, in Glencoe, after an accidental fall from a grain bin, at the age of 65. Blessed be his memory.

It will be hard to imagine the Schramm Brothers without Merlin, as they depended on each other’s unique gifts and perspectives. Allen and Kevin, may you receive grace to mourn well, and then to proceed as a duo rather than a trio.
