Obituary

Myrtle Mae Fredrickson was born on November 15, 1939, while residing at their family home in Atwater, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Peter and Helen Woltjer. After her family resided for a period of time in Atwater, Minnesota they moved to Hector, Minnesota where she attended school and received her education. Myrtle was baptized as an adult on December 17, 1957, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hector, Minnesota.

On December 29, 1956, Myrtle was united in marriage to Melvin “Shorty” Fredrickson by the Justice of the Peace at the County Court House in Pine City, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Gary, Cynthia and Jeffrey. Myrtle and Shorty resided in Buffalo Lake, then moved to the country between Buffalo Lake and Hector before moving back into the town of Buffalo Lake where they resided for over 50 years until they moved into Orchard Estates in Glencoe, Minnesota, and resided there for two years. When Myrtle and Shorty required additional care, they moved to the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake on January 2, 2024, enjoying their time there and participating in many activities. While at the Healthcare Center Myrtle and Shorty quickly became known to everyone as an inseparable loving couple. They shared 68 years of marriage, and the love they shared between the two of them was obvious.

Myrtle was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker for her family. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hector. Myrtle enjoyed being around children, puzzling, embroidering, gardening, tending to flowers and most of all sitting in her backyard swing with Shorty. She loved animals and cared for many of them throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a very warm, caring and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be truly missed.

Myrtle passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake, at the age of 85 years. Her family extends their deepest appreciation for the love and care she received from the staff of the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center, Renville County Hospice, and other healthcare professionals involved in her care.

My heart goes out to Shorty and his family. I was able to say hello to Myrtle a few weeks ago when I called the Healthcare Center. I wish I could be there to celebrate her life but due to health reasons I cannot travel. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
