Service Information

Patrick “Pat” Mattes, age 80, of Hutchinson passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Southview Living Center in Gibbon.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 13, 2021, 10:00 A.M. at the Apostolic Christian Church in Winthrop with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, November 12, 2021, from 5:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Winthrop. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Obituary

Patrick “Pat” Gale Mattes was born on October 21, 1941, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He was the son of George and Helen (Simmet) Mattes. On August 28, 2021, Pat gave his life to the Lord. Pat was a graduate of the Gibbon High School Class of 1959. While in high school he excelled in football and baseball.

On October 29, 1964, Pat was united in marriage to Barbara Messner in Gibbon. This union was blessed with three children, Chad, Tonja and Heidi. Pat and Barbara shared 57 years of marriage.

After their marriage, Pat and Barbara farmed in Winthrop, Minnesota, until 1974. In 1975, Pat began his career with Tri-County Agri Builders/United Farmers Co-op. Pat had eight work comp accidents, resulting in his retirement in 2009. He took pride in his Ag Construction, building Grain Legs, Auger Systems for farmers all over Minnesota. Pat was most passionate about doing a great job and with his relationships with his co-workers. He received many compliments from his friends and co-workers, saying how much they learned from him and admired him. Pat was highly respected for his dedication and one of the hardest workers.

Pat enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years. He loved his family and would often talk about them to his co-workers. He cherished the time he spent with his family, grandchildren, and friends.

When he needed assistance with his daily care, Pat became a resident of Southview Living Center in Gibbon on October 25, 2021, and passed away there on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the age of 80 years. Blessed be his memory.

Pat is survived by his:
Wife,               Barbara Mattes of Hutchinson, MN;
Children,         Chad Mattes and his wife, Patty of Mankato, MN,
                        Tonja Wolf and her husband, Andy of Amery, WI, and
                        Heidi Hernandez and her husband, Ivan of Phoenix, AZ;
Grandchildren, Aaron Mattes, Cullen Wolf, Megan Wolf, Gabriel Hernandez and Lilia Hernandez;
Brothers, Mike Mattes and his wife, Princess of Gibbon, MN, and Mark Mattes and his wife, Aggie of Gibbon, MN;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pat was preceded in death by his Parents, George and Helen Mattes; Sister, Deanna Hoechst; Brothers, Robert Mattes and Dean Mattes; Half-brother, Clark Sorenson.

    Sorry to hear of Pats passing. I got to know him Friday night sanitation at Kraft. He knew the St George area well, and I learned allot from him. Truly a nice guy
