Service Information

Phyllis M. Meffert, age 75, wife of Roger, of Gaylord, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at her residence in Gaylord.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with interment in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021, from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. and will continue from 9:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. prior to the service, all at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Obituary

Phyllis Mae Meffert was born on July 30, 1946, in Glencoe, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Ehlers) Vinkemeier. Phyllis was baptized as an infant on August 11, 1946, at First Lutheran in Glencoe and later confirmed in her faith as a youth on June 19, 1960, at Centennial Lutheran Church in Henderson, Minnesota by Rev. Mueller. She received her education at the country school, rural Glencoe, Glencoe and Victoria Public Schools and was a graduate with the LeSueur High School class of 1964.

On November 20, 1965, Phyllis was united in marriage to Roger Meffert at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with one son, David. Phyllis and Roger resided in Gaylord all their lives. Phyllis and Roger shared 55 years of marriage.

Phyllis was employed at Fingerhut for many years, Lakeview Nursing for 10 years and also did daycare. In 2000, she began working in the office at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.

Phyllis enjoyed crocheting and counted cross-stitch crafts. She also enjoyed making Intarsia woodworking crafts and greeting cards for family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

Phyllis passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at her residence in Gaylord, at the age of 75 years.

Grandchildren, Madeline Meffert and her fiancé, Peter Vachon of Hibbing, MN,

Sister, Carol Borchardt and her husband, Darrel, of Winthrop, MN;
Brothers, Wayne Vinkemeier and his wife, Lori, of Stewart, MN,
Bruce Vinkemeier and his wife, Marilyn, of Glencoe, MN,
Dale Vinkemeier and his wife, Julie, of Henderson, MN,
Dennis Vinkemeier of Gaylord, MN;
Sister-in-law, Marge Meffert of Minneapolis, MN;
Brothers-in-law, Robert Meffert and his wife, Mary, of Marshall, MN,
Roland Meffert of Red Wing, MN;
Special Friend, Myrna Kuphal of Winthrop, MN;
Many nieces and nephews, and other kind and loving relatives and friends.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her Parents, Clarence and Gertrude Vinkemeier; Sister, Darlene Wolfe; Brother, Kent Vinkemeier; Parents-in-law, Elmer and Luella Meffert; Sisters-in-law, Carol Vinkemeier, Diane Vinkemeier, and Barb Meffert; Brothers-in-law, Jerry Dietel and Tom Nelson.

    I am so sad to hear of Phyllis’ death. She was such an awesome friend to me while I lived in Gaylord. Not only being a wonderful neighbor, but we shared playing bells at the church, many garage sales and bringing up our children . She will so be missed. My sympathies to the family.
