Service Information
Phyllis Johnson, age 92, of Hector, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017, 12:00 P.M. (Noon) at the United Methodist Church in Hector, Minnesota, with interment at 2:00 P.M. at the Hector City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 10:30 A.M. – 12:00 P.M., 1-1/2 hours prior the service at the church.
Obituary
Phyllis Maureen Johnson was born on September 13, 1925, in Mallard, Iowa. Her parents were Benjamin and Blanche (Wright) Stafford.
On April 16, 1944, Phyllis was united in marriage to Roland “Stub” Johnson in Hector, Minnesota. Phyllis and Stub made their home in Hector. They raised four sons, Dennis, Galen, Steven and Jay. Phyllis and Stub shared 70 years of marriage.
Phyllis worked in various office capacities throughout her adult life, most notably the Security State Bank, 3M, and the Hector Telephone Company, later to become GTE and Verizon.
As a young girl, Phyllis and her sisters were known as the Stafford Sisters and sang at various venues throughout Iowa. Phyllis was the Valedictorian of her High School graduating class. She was an accomplished dancer, pianist and singer. Phyllis taught tap dancing as well as ballroom dancing. She sang at weddings and funerals, and would often be the center of entertainment at social gatherings, playing and singing at the piano. Phyllis led the music ministry at the Methodist Church for many years.
The greatest joy in Phyllis’ life was her family, caring for them when young and being actively involved in their activities as they grew older. Phyllis was an avid fan and she and Stub traveled long distances to watch sporting events of family members. Phyllis was a good athlete in her own right, winning a State Girls Basketball Championship in high school.
In their retirement, Phyllis and Stub became snowbirds, escaping the cold Minnesota winters for the warm Arizona sun. They joined up with high school friends and relatives from Iowa.
Phyllis died peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, at the age of 92 years.

Left to cherish the memories of Phyllis are her: Sons, Dennis (Sharon) Johnson, Galen (Ann) Johnson, Steven (Judy) Johnson, Jay (Doreen) Johnson; Many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Roland “Stub” Johnson; parents, Benjamin and Blanche Stafford; Sisters, Isabelle, Norma and Leora (Oscar) Kallestad.

I spent 40 days with Phyllis at 3 meals a day when I was in the Nursing Home from June 22 to August 1st, and at Bingo and cards. My husband, John, and I enjoyed their company at dances and going in their camper to dance festivals in Iowa. I feel so sad to learned of her passing. PHYLLIS, enjoyed the company of Stub and John.
