Service Information

Robert Young, age 92, of Gaylord passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Memorial Service will be Friday, January 24, 2025, 11:00 A.M. at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord with in interment in the Gaylord City Cemetery.

Gathering of Family and Friends will be Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 5:00 P.M.-7:00 P.M. at American Lutheran Church in Gaylord and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Military Honors by the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post #433 in Gaylord.

Obituary

Robert Eugene Young was born on September 1, 1932, in Sibley Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of John Roland and Ruth (Borchert) Young. Robert was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education in Gaylord and was a graduate of the Gaylord High School Class of 1950. Robert was a lifelong resident of Gaylord.

On December 2, 1952, Robert entered active military service and served his country during the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Robert achieved the rank of Sergeant and was with the artillery. He was Honorably Discharged on December 1, 1955.

On February 28, 1957, Robert was united in marriage to Donna Plagge at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and the couple set up residence in Gaylord. Together, they raised three sons, Steve, Gary, and Brian (Bucky). Robert was the co-owner of Hydro Engineering in Norwood Young America. The couple shared 63 years of marriage, when Donna passed away on May 17, 2020.

Robert was a member of American Lutheran Church in Gaylord and served as an usher. He was a 70-year member of the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post #433 in Gaylord.

Robert was a founding member and past president of the Drift Dodgers Snowmobile Club in Gaylord. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching all Minnesota sports especially the Minnesota Lynx.

Robert passed away on Monday, January 13, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester at the age of 92 years. Blessed be his memory.

Robert is survived by his:
Sons,   Steve (Patty) Young,
            Gary (Pam) Young, and
            Brian (Judy) Young;  
Six grandchildren, Cole, Ross (Karen), Tim (Kylee) Max, Dylan and Faith;
Great-grandchildren, York Young and Griffin Young;
Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by an infant Daughter, Laurie; Parents, John Roland and Ruth Young; Wife, Donna Young; Brothers, Glenn Young and Richard “Dick” Young.

    So sorry for your loss. I would see Bob in the grocery store now and then and he was always the gentleman and had a great smile on his face. I remember he liked Dairy Queen blizzards that makes me smile. My sympathies to family and friends

    Our sympathies to the Young family. Our kids were a part of your family for years that your Mom did daycare for us while we did our fall and spring field work.
