Obituary

Robert “Bob” Dale Fredrickson was born on June 22, 1932, at home in rural Renville County, Minnesota. He was the son of George and Ellen (Hedberg) Fredrickson. Bob was baptized on August 21, 1932, and was later confirmed in his faith on October 19, 1947, both at Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township. He received his education in Hector and was a graduate of the Hector High School Class of 1950.

Bob entered active military service in the United States Army in May 1953, at Fort Ord in California and served his country during the Korean War as a member of the 728th Military Police Battalion. He received an Honorable Discharge in April 1955 and achieved the rank of Corporal.

On March 21, 1959, Bob was united in marriage to Ruth Schmidt at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota. This union was blessed with two children, Brian and Linda. Bob and Ruth lived and raised their family on the family homestead farm in rural Hector. They shared 62 years of marriage.

Following his military service, Bob farmed until 1971. He then owned and operated Standard Truck & Equipment. Bob retired in 1998. He was a lifelong member of Swedlanda Lutheran Church in Palmyra Township, taking his turn serving on church boards. He was also a member of the Carl O. Potter American Legion Post 135 of Hector, and the Fairfax VFW Post # 8459.

Bob was an active outdoorsman; this showed through his enjoyment of golfing, downhill skiing, water skiing on trick skis, playing softball, and hunting. He also enjoyed roller-skating, dancing, playing racquetball, bowling, playing cards, and shaking dice. He enjoyed driving truck, boating, and piloted single-engine planes as a member of the Hector Skyhawks. Bob loved arm-wrestling.

Bob loved his family and cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.

Bob lived the last year of his life at Prairie View of Hector, MN, where he passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the age of 89 years.

Ruth, Brian, and Linda, we send our sympathies and prayers to each of you as you remember Bob. I(Judy Christensen) have many good memories of “Bobbie” from Swedlanda. All of the Fredrickson’s were neighbors and friends of my youth and adult years. May each of you find peace and comfort that Bobbie is home with Jesus. Mike and Judy (Christensen) Schlecht

Our deepest sympathy in the loss of Bob. Such a wonderful and kind gentle man. I recall him taking Dick and Eileen’s kids boating and I think in his plane. I always thought he was a cool uncle to my nieces and nephews. Always a smile on his face. Blessings to Ruth and their children and hugs to all!

My sympathies to Ruth, Brian, Linda and the entire Fredrickson Family.
I’ll always remember Bob with his movie camera at family gatherings. And that ridiculous bright light! Also, Christmas program at Swedlanda and “Joy to the World”~blew any dust on the organ pipes to the moon!
    RIP Bob.

I will miss Bob on our ski team reunions. He showed us all how to take care of the service people we encountered on our many trips, as he always led by tipping well and keeping us laughing with his stories. He lived a good life!
