Obituary

Rosalind “Roz” Ewald was born on May 3, 1950, in Litchfield, Minnesota. Roz was the youngest of eight children born to Verne and Freda (Anderson) Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed at Beckville Lutheran Church in Greenleaf Township, Meeker County, Minnesota. In 1968, Roz graduated from Litchfield High School. She then went on to nursing school at the Meeker County School of Nursing and graduated in 1970 as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

On May 22, 1971, she was united in marriage to Henry Ewald at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Darwin. They shared 45 years of marriage and were blessed with four children, Damon, Dede, Tanya and Tara.

Roz had an entrepreneurial spirit, having run an upholstery business and Apple Orchard with Henry during their early years of marriage. With Roz’s nursing degree, in 1984 they took a leap of faith and opened Cedar Crest Estate in Hutchinson, Minnesota. At that time, Cedar Crest was the first of its kind in its approach to elderly care. Over the years, they grew and built their business to include additional locations in Cosmos and Silver Lake.

Roz enjoyed traveling with her family, so much she insisted on it at least yearly to include all children and grandchildren. Roz was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a compassionate caregiver as well as an understanding employer and friend.

There are no words that can comfort at the loss of a mom. Just know that I’m here for you all, and feel your hurt. She was an amazing woman. I’m so sorry for your loss, Damon, Dede, Tanya, and Tara.
