Obituary

Rosemary “Rosie” Ordell (Kiecker) Arhart was born on March 5, 1936, in Wellington Township, MN.  She was the daughter of Hilmer and Ordell (Klukas) Kiecker.  Rosemary was baptized as an infant in 1936, at Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wellington Township, Renville County, Minnesota.  She received her high school education in Fairfax, and was a graduate and the Valedictorian of the 1953 class of Fairfax High School.  After high school, Rosemary went to work as a secretary for the Sheldon Larson Law Firm in Winthrop, MN.

On June 23, 1957, Rosemary was united in marriage to Dallas Dwight Arhart at Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wellington Township.  After their marriage, the couple farmed in Bismarck Township, Sibley County, MN.  Once the children were in school, she went to work for the US Post Office in Winthrop as a clerk, and later as a rural carrier. Rosie and Dallas shared 55 years of marriage and were blessed with two children--Anthony Dallas and Sharilee May.

Rosie was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop.  She served and held offices in the Ladies Guild.  She also sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher, participated in “family night” skits, and played with the church ladies volleyball team in the DMLC tournaments.  She was a big part of the Winthrop Community Theatre, and movie theatre, in Winthrop.  She acted in many of the Theatre Play Productions.  Rosie played softball with the Winthrop Women’s League until she was 52 years young.  She also enjoyed being a competitive member of the Bismarck Township Horseshoe team.  Rosie had a beautiful singing voice and had the honor of singing for many events.  She was blessed to sing with many choirs, including the Sibley County Choir.

Rosemary had many talents, whether it be artistic, academic, running farm equipment and raising livestock, singing or sports.  She would be the first to volunteer, and would not quit until the job was done.  She had an infectious laugh that would bring a smile to our faces.  Rosie enjoyed dancing, gardening, snowmobiling, foraging, cooking, and canning.  She made the best lemon meringue pies, canned dill pickles, wild game, and fish entrees.  She really loved to fish, winter and summer.  During the 2003 Minnesota moose season, with a single shot using open sights, she was the first and oldest hunter to register a moose.  She enjoyed the wildlife and the changing seasons on her restored wetland and prairie habitats on the farm, while spending time with her family and grandchildren, especially playing games and cards and trying new recipes.  She always thought of her family’s needs before her own.

Rosemary passed away on Monday June 29, 2020, in her home, at the age of 84, with her children by her side.  She was truly a Child of God.  Blessed be her memory.

Rosemary is survived by her son, Anthony Arhart and his wife Barb; her daughter, Sharilee Ackerman and her husband, Kyle. Grandchildren Sophie Arhart, Gracie Arhart, Jacob Arhart, Jordan Arhart, Josh Arhart and his wife, Danielle and great grandchildren, Rowan and Ainslie. Brothers, Russell Kiecker and his wife Patty; Michael Kiecker and his wife Linda; Brothers-in-law, Ralph Magnenat and Delmar Bussler; Sister-in-law, Cindy Arhart; many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, other relatives and friends.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her Husband, Dallas Arhart; Parents, Hilmer and Ordell Kiecker; Sister, Monica Kiecker Magnenat; Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law, Dwight and Thelma Arhart; Sister-In-Law, Rebecca Bussler; Brother-in-law, John Arhart.

During a time like this we realize how much our friends and relatives mean to us.
Your expressions of sympathy will always be remembered.

    Shari, Tony and families –
Our hearts are heavy knowing our sweet Rosie has departed this earth, but we know she gained her Angel
Wings and is in the presence of her Savior, singing in that heavenly choir, and reunited with her loved ones who have gone on before.

We pray for peace and comfort for you all.

    Love,
    Sharon, Charlie and family

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember visiting your mom and dad with my mom and dad. Rosie was always a joy. I always wanted to be like her. I have never forgotten her moose story. It was great to get to know her again at the cousin reunions. You will be in my prayers and I will be thinking of you often.

Adding on to the comment my mom left earlier today, I just wanted to add my own personal condolences. It has been a long time since I saw Rosie but I can still hear that “infectious laugh” of hers. From my childhood I have such fond & cherished memories of spending time with your wonderful family when we would make the trip from Georgia to Winthrop to visit my dad’s side of our family. We feel like you are extended family. I am so sorry for the pain & sorrow you’re experiencing now. We are with you all in spirit & our hearts break with you. Praying for comfort & peace for you all. Even though we can’t be there in person, please know that we are remembering & celebrating Rosie here in Georgia & sharing stories & memories (digging out some old pics too) that make us smile. We love you.

So sorry of your loss, Rosie was such a sweet lady. I hadn’t seen Rosie for quite some time. I knew your parents for a long time as they were good friends to my Brother, Charles Miller. When Rosie volunteered at the Treasure Haus in New Ulm we would visit.
God bless you all, and help you through these trying times.

Shari and Tony and the rest of the family:
After I left the farm especially after the fire, Rosie and I seem to kind of drift apart in our connection. I wish I could be there for the funeral, but I can’t. I just had a total knee replacement so it’s just out of the question. I want you to both know I truly loved your mother. I know she was a neighbor but even more importantly she was a true friend. I am so sorry for your loss, but I know where she is now, with the Lord. I have a card I would like to send but I do not have an address for either Tony or you Shari. So please accept my deepest sympathy, and may the Lord be your comfort and strength in all the days ahead! Gods blessings to all!
    Love from
    Jan Remus
