Russell “Rusty” Effertz, age 62, of Stewart, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 22, 2014, at 4:30 P.M. at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar, Minnesota.
Interment will be held in the Church cemetery.
Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the Church in Willmar on Monday afternoon.
Obituary
Russell Raphael Effertz was born June 6, 1952, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Raphael and Cyrilla (Thielman) Effertz. He was baptized as an infant, and confirmed in his faith as a youth. He was a graduate of Willmar High School with the Class of 1970.
Throughout the years, Russell, known to his friends as Russ or Rusty, worked in various places. He worked as a bartender at nightclubs in Willmar, and also as a manager at Flyers in Hutchinson. Russ worked at Pam’s Furniture in Hutchinson as the warehouse manager, and also at Crow River Winery in Hutchinson.
Rusty was a peaceful man, a gentle giant. He cared about everyone and their needs. He was easy to talk to, and was a good listener. He truly enjoyed all the time he could spend fishing, golfing, bowling, and gardening. He was a good cook, and made the best chili. Rusty also liked to grill and bake. He loved the grandbabies, and loved children.
On Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014, Russell passed away at his home in Boon Lake Township, having reached the age of 62 years, 3 months, and 11 days. Blessed be his memory.
Rusty is survived by his:
Best Friend, Judy Mellies, of rural Stewart, and her sons and their families, Eric Mellies and wife Gretchen of Chaska, and David Mellies and wife Samantha and their children of St. Francis;
Mother, Cyrilla Effertz, of Atwater;
Sister, Laurie Torkelson and husband Orin of Atwater;
Nephew, Adam Lere and wife Sabrina of Spicer;
Nieces: Charlene Gronseth of Alexandria, Katie Smith (Tyler) of Willmar, and Shelby Clark of Atwater;
many other relatives and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by his father, Raphael Effertz.
