Obituary
Sandra “Sandy” Kay Kucera was born on November 9, 1941, in Litchfield, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Floyd and Tilda (Marstad) Moody. Sandy was baptized as an infant on January 25, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grove City, Minnesota. The family later moved to Silver Lake, Minnesota, where she was confirmed in her faith as a youth on May 13, 1956, at the Czech Brethren Presbyterian Church. Sandy attended Silver Lake High School and played the saxophone in the band. She was a graduate of the Silver Lake High School Class of 1959. After graduation, Sandy moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, to work for the Great Northern Railroad Company.
On November 11, 1961, Sandy was united in marriage to Archie Kucera at the Czech Brethren Presbyterian Church in Silver Lake, Minnesota. They made their home in Hutchinson and she was employed at Haapala Seed Company in Dassel, Minnesota. Sandy and Archie shared 58 years of marriage prior to the passing of Archie on December 11, 2019.
Sandy and Archie welcomed their son, David, on April 12, 1966. On August 11, 1972, they adopted their second son, Chuck. Following several years as a homemaker, Sandy went to back to work part time for the Hutchinson School District as a driver for students. She also worked as a waitress at Country Kitchen, and then later in various roles for K-Mart, eventually becoming responsible for their greeting card department through American Greetings. Sandy loved her greeting card role, giving her the chance to work on a flexible schedule and see lots of friends as they came into the stores where she worked.
Sandy always had a heart of service, working for Meals on Wheels for decades as a driver and Captain, volunteering in numerous capacities for her lifelong church, Bethlehem United Methodist, and at school. She was also able to spend many years providing care for her grandchildren before and after school.
Sandy found connection through playing cards with family and friends, her favorite game being 500. She enjoyed cooking, people-watching, her lunch group, attending parades and her family’s sporting events. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

My sympathies to Sandy’s family. Your parent’s home was our first ‘snow place’ for when the busses couldn’t get us home from school. And in the later years, I would always say Hi to your mom when she was putting out the cards. She was always smiling.

Kuc – I am so sorry about the loss of your Mom. Losing parents is a horrible part of life – but I always think of how much horrible it would be for them to outlive a child. You are so blessed to have had your Mom for so many years of your adult life, that your kids have so many years of Grandma. Take comfort that she fulfilled her role on this earth perfectly. Hugs – my friend!
Bridget
