Obituary

Sandra Lou Sommerdorf was born on October 16, 1943, in Flint, Michigan. She was the daughter of Robert and Yvonne (Cribbs) Steele.

On December 10, 1965, Sandra was united in marriage to Charles W. Sommerdorf in Fairbanks, Alaska, and soon thereafter, moved to Brownton, Minnesota to farm. This marriage was blessed with three children, Craig, Michelle, and DeWayne. They shared 59 years of marriage. Sandra was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother.

Sandra was employed as a nursing aide for several nursing homes in McLeod County and home care in private homes. She also taught aerobics in Hutchinson, Minnesota. Sandra was known for her fun personality and infectious laugh/scream.

Sandra’s home was always filled with the pitter-patter of paws. She rescued countless animals over the years, from dogs and cats, to the occasional injured bird, squirrel, and even raccoon. By far, her favorite animal was cats. She found joy in spending time cooking, going for long walks with her dog, and reading.

Sandra passed away with her family by her side on Monday, May 19, 2025, at her son, DeWayne and Brenda Sommerdorf’s home in Becker, Minnesota, at the age of 81 years.

Blessed be her memory.

Sandra is survived by her:
Husband, Charles Sommerdorf of Brownton, MN;
Daughter, Michelle Beaver and her husband, John;
Sons, Craig Sommerdorf and his wife, Liz,
DeWayne Sommerdorf and his wife, Brenda;
Grandsons, Brandon Grover and Ryan Sommerdorf;
Granddaughters, Kristi Grover and Jamie Sommerdorf;
Many other relatives and friends.

Sandra is preceded in death by her Parents, Robert and Yvonne Steele.

    We are sure going to miss Sandy around here. Miss our talks on the road. Ever since we bought this place she had been like a “mother” to us, always bringing a baked good, soup or potatoe salad or something to share of her excellent cooking skills. She most certainly loved her animals. Always caring for them immensely. Surely is going to take awhile to get used to not seeing her drive by or stop to chat, along with no longer getting a call from her to just catch up and see how we are doing over here. She truly was a gem, weee will really miss her. Rest in Peace sweet Sandy.
