Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Mae (Dahlke) Herrmann was born on July 30, 1948 in Hutchinson, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Gerhardt “Bud” and Lucille (Muchow) Dahlke. Sandy was the first of four children. She was baptized as an infant at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart Minnesota, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 15, 1962 by Rev. Bradke of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, Minnesota. Sandy grew up on various farms and attended Arlington, Gaylord, and Glencoe Public Schools. She also attended St. John’s Lutheran School in Helen Township, rural Glencoe. Sandy was a graduate of the Glencoe High School (Stevens Seminary) Class of 1966. After high school, she continued her education at Rogers Brenner School of Cosmetology in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Sandy, along with four girls from her Home Economics class, lived in Minneapolis while going to Cosmetology School.

After graduating in May of 1967, Sandy began her career as a hairdresser with Gladys Alsleben in Gaylord, Minnesota. After six years, Sandy relocated to Plato, Minnesota, working for Doris Schwirtz for the next ten years. Sandy decided on a change of occupation and became a Loan Administrator at Security Bank & Trust. After 17 years with the bank, Sandy joined Dr. Nelson and Dr. Knorr’s practice as their bookkeeper until her retirement in 2010.

On August 10, 1970, Sandy was united in marriage to high school sweetheart, Dale Ruschmeier at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Helen Township, rural Glencoe. This marriage was blessed with three children: Lori Ann, Daniel Hubert, and Matthew Bud. They lived in Glencoe, before “moving a house” from Minneapolis and residing south of Glencoe. In 1988, Sandy and Dale sold the country home and moved back to the city of Glencoe. The family enjoyed spending time at Sandy’s parent’s cabin on Dead Lake and later at their cabin on Long Lake. They shared almost 33 years of marriage prior to the passing of Dale on July 6, 2003.

On October 21, 2006, Sandy married Larry Herrmann by Pastor R. Allan Reed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, Minnesota.

Sandy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for 43 years, serving in the choir and Ladies Aid. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary since 1973. In 2006, Sandy became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton, also serving in their choir and Ladies Aid.

Sandy loved being a wife and mother to her children. She enjoyed baking, crafting, shopping and visiting with friends. She bowled for 40 years and attended local and state bowling tournaments. Sandy and Larry enjoyed wintering at their home in Arizona and summering up at Lake Andrew in Alexandria, Minnesota. They also enjoyed taking a Mediterranean Cruise, traveling to China, Hawaii, Key West, and visits to Larry’s daughter’s family in Tampa, Florida. She cherished spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

My deepest sympathies go out to Sandy’s family & Friends. Sandy & I were in the same graduating class & actually went from GradeSchool all the way thru HighSchool together. Her medical problems never seemed to get her down & I will always remember her brilliant smile. Rest In Peace now Sandy, you will be missed.
