Obituary

Steven Wayne Olson was born May 15, 1957, in Gaylord, Minnesota, the son of Kermit and Ruth (Steffen) Olson. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon, Minnesota, and was later confirmed in his faith at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. Steve grew up on the family farm in Grafton Township, and graduated from the Buffalo Lake High School in 1975.

Steve continued to live and work on the family farm where they raised hogs and cattle. He was also a tremendous help to his mother, Ruth, especially after his father, Kermit, died in 2010. Ruth made rugs, and Steve helped her, also keeping the equipment in good working order. They traveled together to craft shows where they sold the rugs. Steve also enjoyed taking Ruth on drives, to garage sales, auctions, and Goodwill stores. He loved to take the golf cart to check the fields or get the mail. He liked to watch All Star Wrestling and Kansas University and Kentucky College basketball. Steve also enjoyed cooking and baking.

Steve was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Buffalo Lake. He served on the Worship and Evangelism Committee, and as head usher. He was a gentle and kind man, and will long be remembered for taking such good care of his mother.

Steve entered the Buffalo Lake Healthcare Center for the last days of his life, having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March. On Monday evening, April 16, 2018, Steve passed away there, having reached the age of 60 years and 11 months. Blessed be his memory.

Steve is survived by his:

Mother, Ruth Olson of Buffalo Lake;

Sisters: Judy Peterson and her husband Dennis of Buffalo Lake, and
             Pam LaPlante of Buffalo Lake;

Nieces and Nephews:  Joshua Bashans, Madison LaPlante and friend Denise, Martina Kruse and husband Tim and their child Emrey, and MaLeena LaPlante and friend Patrick;

other relatives, and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his Father, Kermit Olson on April 17, 2010, Sister Sharon Olson in 2014, and Nephew Mackenzie LaPlante in infancy.
