Obituary

Thelma Ardeane (Thrush) Mikkelson was born on March 3, 1924, in Blue Earth, Minnesota. She was the daughter of George and Ella (Zachariason) Thrush. Thelma was baptized as an infant and later was confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Blue Earth, Minnesota, graduating with the Blue Earth High School Class of 1942.

On November 1, 1947, Thelma was united in marriage to Donald Mikkelson at Salem Evangelical Church in Blue Earth, Minnesota, with Rev. J. G. Heidinger officiating. Thelma and Donald made their home in Elmore, Blue Earth and Chaska, Minnesota; Downey, California; and finally New Ulm. They shared over 46 years of marriage until Donald passed away on June 5, 1993.

Thelma had several different jobs in her lifetime. In her single years during the war she worked as a telephone operator in California. Later Thelma & Donald ran a paper company also in California. She worked in a bank for many years and eventually she & Donald bought “The Office”, a bar in downtown New Ulm. Thelma was also a member of Eastern Star, the Church Ladies Aid and last but not least a club called the “Golden Girls” started by very dear friends of hers. Thelma so enjoyed their outings together and was so appreciative they took such good care of her.

Thelma enjoyed traveling, dancing, cryptoquotes, walking, socializing with friends and spending time with her family.

Thelma passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at her niece’s home in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 93 years, 10 months and 8 days.
